Gospel Brunch at HOB

Has anybody been, I am not religious but it sounds a nice way to spend a sunday morning.

Thanks

Gospel Brunch at HOB

We went to the one here in Chicago. It was a nice way to spend a Sunday morning indeed! The music and food were both good, but I think some of the Sunday Champagne bruches in Vegas are better (minus the entertainment obviously). If you are staying on that end of the Strip, it might be worth checking out for you. If you are more central, I would try Spice Market, Paris, Bellagio, or the Sterling Brunch instead!

Gospel Brunch at HOB

Just saw the gospel brunch last Sunday (Mothers Day). I very much enjoyed it.

Yes it is gospel. They encourage you to clap along, wave your red napkins and all that. I did. My two friends at my table didn%26#39;t. Across the venue most did and some did not. I don%26#39;t think either group would feel out of place.

It is not ';preachy';. There are no sermons or efforts to convert. The songs are upbeat and are about giving thanks to the Lord. The interludes between musical numbers was also about giving praise and thanks to Jesus.

In summary, there is a strong religous presence, but my group did not find it overwhelming.

Other comments:

It is a buffet. The food was good, but a little lukewarm. I attended the noon showing and it had both breakfast and lunch offerings. I also paid $12 for all you can drink mimosas.

Assigned seating. Even with assigned seating, I recommend getting to the doors 10-15 minutes before the lines start. This will give you a head-start on the buffet.

The on-stage talent consisted of a small band and a lead singer with backup vocals. A hostess also did a few numbers.

It was a full house. As I said it was Mother%26#39;s Day, and I have the feeling a lot of locals took there Mom%26#39;s to this show.

I enjoyed it and would go again. The cost of the show is a few dollars more than the cost of a traditional Sunday buffet, and in return you get assigned seating, less lines, and a good performance. The music was refreshing and lively.

I hope that helps.

  • Favorite All-Around Casino/Hotel?

We are coming back to Vegas for our second visit in less than two weeks! We would like to see some of the hotels/casinos we missed the first time but only have four days. Staying at the Monte Carlo and want to know where to go for gambling/restaurant/free show/free attraction/shopping/music.

In other words, doing four casinos in four days, a casino a day; which ones to choose for best all around experience? (We have already been to Excalibur (fun!), MGM, (HUGE!) NYNY, Harrah%26#39;s, CircusCircus, Sahara and now imploded Boardwalk).

    We were thinking:

    1. Bellagio

    2. Venetian

    3. Ceasar%26#39;s Palace

    4. Paris

    5. Imperial Palace

If you only had four days, which would you choose??? Why???

    Favorite All-Around Casino/Hotel?

so you are really asking about the casino - NOT the hotel, correct? What do you plan on doing in the casino besides restaurant/free show/shopping - gambling or just looking? know that any ';free show%26#39; last just minutes, shopping is personal - you can spend 1 minute or 10 hours. If you are gambling in the casinos what is your game preference.

For ';just looking'; bellagio, venetian and wynn

they all have many food options. while at wynn see spamalot, at venetian phantom or blue man, bellagio O

    Favorite All-Around Casino/Hotel?

If you like Vegas and think you could get comps play / visit look at same corporate casinos. MGM/Mirage or Harrahs. Google web to get the specific properties in each group. Use the players cards.

But if you don%26#39;t care about chasing comps then, the Wynn would be an addition to your list, but the IP would not be on it. (Just my opinion.)

    Malebird

You are so lucky to be going back so soon. My vote would be for either Venetian or Wynn. The Venetian is beautiful and I have heard that people do well here. (I plan on spending a lot of quality time there in July when I go.) I think the Wynn is just as beautiful and have a huge soft spot for the casino; I stayed there last year and did relatively well there.

Venetian..Hotel and Casino , bars and places to eat....We love it!

First of all, let me clarify, we are going in two weeks, 05/28-06/02, last time we were there was 2004. I guess I didnt word that too well!

Mainly a slots player, also enjoy blackjack and video poker, but not really a big gambler; MIGHT spend fifty a day. Have lots of free coupons and 241 meal tickets so comps not a big factor.

What I guess I mean to say is that we%26#39;re looking for a hotel/casino that has a lot to do and see, where we can spend the day (';just looking';)...That%26#39;s why IP is on the list: Big Elvis, Auto Collection, Dealertainers...sounds like I should add Wynn to the list...I noticed no comments on Paris (should we stick around after the breakfast buffet?)

Here%26#39;s a suggestion. One thing I love to do when I%26#39;m in Vegas is take an Excalibur/Luxor/Mandalay Bay/Four Seasons walk. Allocate anywhere from 2 hours to half a day to do it, depending on how much you want to explore, eat, etc..

Excalibur is a fun but kind of average place (as you already know). You can take the walkway from there to Luxor, which is a little higher in quality and visually interesting. Then you can take the walkway from Luxor to Mandalay Bay (I believe it%26#39;s more like a ';mall'; that you walk through). Mandalay Bay is a step up in quality from Luxor and a fun place to walk around. Then, to top it off, you can walk from Mandalay Bay right into Four Seasons which is probably the best hotel in Vegas. (There%26#39;s a ';hidden'; walkway from Mandalay to Four Seasons just past MB%26#39;s check-in desk).

Visiting those four hotels in that order, it%26#39;s like you%26#39;re going from fair to good to better to best. It may sound funny, but I always like to visit the swanky restroom in the Four Seasons. Even the men%26#39;s restroom has lotion and cloth towels.

Treasure Island is fun to see; you can see the Sirens of Ti show free in the evening; and visit the Fashion Show Mall. Next door is the Mirage where they have the free volcano show and the white tiger exhibit.

Caesars also can occupy you for awhile. Lots of shops and restaurants and just walking the casino (s) there is an adventure.

Caesars, Venetian, Bellagio had a lot to look at, tons of shopping, and just overall a lot to walk around and see.

Wynn was, IMO, by far the most beautiful hotel/casino I%26#39;ve been in and if I had the money I%26#39;d stay there in a heartbeat just for the atmosphere. It%26#39;s a little further off from those others, but worth it. The way it is decorated is so gorgeous, they have some shopping (including a...Ferrari dealership I think), the outdoor waterfall, and very upscale restaurants and bars that I am looking forward to trying out this next time around. To me, Wynn stood out above the rest and was in a league of it%26#39;s own.

    Luxor pools open this weekend?

Does anyone know for sure if all pools will be open this wekeend?

We arrive on Fri afternoon. Hope there are plenty of chairs to go around.

    Thanks

    Luxor pools open this weekend?

Why? were they closed for some reason? it will be 100 degrees so I think yes the pools will be open.

    Luxor pools open this weekend?

Do you really need ';ALL'; of the pools to be open?

I%26#39;m going to have to believe that they will have enough pools open to satisfy your swimming needs. I was just there last weekend and there were plenty of lounge chairs to go around.

Enjoy your stay, don%26#39;t fret about the pool.

Had a strip view from THEhotel at Mandalay Bay, so I got to see the Luxor pools from several hundred feet up.

As far as I could tell there were two main pools. One had barricades around it and the other was in use. All chairs were available for use throughout the pool area.

    Shade by pool?

Which pool has the most shade?Love to read but out of the sun.Thinking of Mirage or MGM.Someplace better?July trip without kids.

    Shade by pool?

I don%26#39;t know where you are considering staying, but South Point has a covered area (like a large gazebo) with lounge chairs, tables and ceiling fans out in the pool area. My husband and I sat out there all day - it was very enjoyable.

    Shade by pool?

Mirage has plenty of shady spots.. I have no idea what the removed post said, but I assume they were questioning wanting shade at a pool. I also like a spot on the edge of shade for the choice of getting cooked or not. We spent about an hour and a half in the sun last year and got FRIED! It%26#39;s nice to read a book in the shade, and when you get a little warm, take a dip in the pool. Beware at any place though-the ';cool deck'; or concrete around most pools gets blisteringly hot! You end up doing the hot foot dance as quick as you can to the water. Water socks are dorky, but I will probably take the criticizm and wear them next time around.

there was some shade at the director%26#39;s pool at the mgm. we were there the last weekend in April. It is also a very quiet pool (no children) with good cocktail service. The concrte there was ';treated'; and not too hot to walk on. They also had several umbrellas. we really liked the pool area

Paris has a good bit of shade in the morning, early afternoon and late afternoon as both Paris and bally%26#39;s cast a shadow...

looking forward to your post. will be staying ther in less than a week.

    TR - Stratosphere 5-10 / 5-13

Wow, it%26#39;s been an hour..... I fear he was one of the tourists thrown off the Strat....

I hate it when they tease us like this...

Maybe we could make up Strat stories of what they did until they post their real TR. Just to keep us entertained, of course....

This is my first post so I wanted to start by thanking everyone or the tips and advice I found on this site.

My Wife and I flew into McCarran(?) @ 10:30 AM on 5-10 and decided to take a cab to the Strat rather than the shuttle. The cab fare from the airport to hotel was $24 but the trip was much faster than the shuttle route that we went on during our previous trip. The cab is the way to go in my opinion.

I got in line to check in while my Wife found her favorite penny slot ';The Sea Monkey';. While in line I get a call from her on my cell ';I just won 86 dollars!';. Not a bad start to the trip! Check in took 40 minutes even though there were only 6 people in front of me in line : (. After we got checked in we went to the Sahara and bought a 10 ticket monorail pass and rode down to the Flamingo for a late lunch @ Margarittaville. Taking the advice of the forum I ordered Nachos and our favorite beverages. We enjoyed the food and atmoshpere then wandered around the shops around the center strip before returnng to the Strat. TIP - Wear comfortable shoes!

My wife ended up buying 2 pairs of shoes on the trip and every pack of Band-aids she came across (lol). After returning to the Strat we played slots for a couple of hours w/out winning anything. We were both pretty exhausted from the day that began @ 3:00AM in Alabama and went up to the room for a nap at around 8:30.

    Friday

Time warp to 7:30AM Friday. We both wake up and look at each other stunned that we had slept all night. Anxious to make up for lost time we rush to get ready and head down for Breakfast @ Lucky%26#39;s. The Breakfast there was OK but I can%26#39;t highly recommend this place as it is pretty average. We then decided that we would lay out at the pool for a while and spent a relaxing couple of hours there. This was a good way to start the day.

Later in the afternoon we ventured out on a walk and walked all the way to the Flamingo stopping at the casinos and shops along the way. It is a long, hot walk but we enjoyed taking in the sites and just being together in one of our favorite places. We had lunch @ Kahunaville and thoroughly enjoyed it. We returned to the Hotel via the monorail and got ready for the evening. We had VIP tickets to the X Burlesque show for 10:30 Friday night. We took the monorail back to the Flamingo and had the Buffet there which we both enjoyed as much for the atmosphere as the food. We had a table beside the Koi pond and Flamingo Garden. Everything was nice and relaxed until a group of thugs ran out into the middle of the Flamingo Garden scattering them everywhere. I expected to see an LA style beat-down but the guys made a quick getaway before security could respond. After dinner we made our way to the showroom, ordered drinks and enjoyed the show. The X show was a Strip club style show that you can convince your wife to attend with you! I enjoyed it and she tolerated it! Afterward we walked the strip hand in hand and took in the sights and sounds of Vegas at night. Life doesn%26#39;t get any better than this. We then returned to the Hotel and played until 4:30AM!

    Saturday

Had B%26#39;fast and went back to the pool for a couple of hours. Very hot but also relaxing. We then headed over to Fremont Street via the trolley. Don%26#39;t take the trolley! We waited 45 minutes for pick up then had to endure several stops along the way before reaching the Golden Nugget. After getting there we really enjoyed Fremont. I know some on here knock it but I think it is what you make of it. There was a free country music concert going on which we enjoyed. Highlights here included frozen drinks from La Bayou (2 of these will guarantee a good time). We also had a .99 shrimp cocktail from the Golden Gate. I won a little on a slot machine @ Golden Gate but lost at the other casinos there. Incidentally there was a group called the ';Poverty Neck ???%26#39;s'; from Pennsylvania that were really good despite their name. They were a Rock/Country group that we both felt will make it big. In our opinion they were much better than some of the other artist on major labels (No, I%26#39;m not their manager lol). We left Fremont and headed back to the Strat to get ready for Dinner and the Bite show. Ended up rushed for time and had Dinner at ';The Courtyard'; Bufet. This was probably the least enjoyable meal of the trip. The selection wasn%26#39;t very large and the quality also wasn%26#39;t impressive to me. During a previous trip we had enjoyed the buffet there so maybe it was just a bad night. After Dinner we went to the Bite show @ 10:00. This show was 1 part vampire horror movie, 1 part classic rock and 1 part very fine topless women dancing. 2 thumbs up from me! You also get buy 1 get 1 tics when staying at the Strat. After the show we went back to the Casino intent on making up some of the several hundred $ we had lost. I put 10$ into a penny slot and promptly hit a 100$ bonus then went over to a dollar machine with my winnings. I put the 100 into a Wheel of Fortune and within 30 minutes cashed out 251 Dollars. We were still behind 5-6 hundred but I felt better. I walked over to my Wife who had found a new favorite penny slot named ';Lucky Lemmings';. She is low maintenance! She had watched an Asian Gentleman hit 800$ on a penny machine earlier so she was using this newfound technique on her machine complete with rubbing all the buttons during spins and alternately begging for Bonus spins and threatening to leave after the next spin. I was pretty tired so I talked her into cashing out her 40$ ticket and playing it on a 1$ slot. She agreed and went over to a WOF machine and sat down. On about her 3 spin she hit for 400$. That%26#39;s my Girl!. She got up to 450 and then cashed out at 400$. That put us pretty much back to the same amount of cash that we brought with us. A great end to a wonderful trip for us.

    Sunday

Flight was @ 1:30. We grudgingly packed up and cabbed it to the airport (13$). We spent a bit of time stocking up on T%26#39;s to take back for our kids then boarded for an uneventful flight back to reality.

    I apologize for the following:

    - misspellings

    - Gramatical errors

    - The length of this report

    - Not being able to share all of the events of this trip ';What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas';.

Sorry. I%26#39;m a SLOW typer and my memory was a bit fuzzy.

Sounds like a good trip! Breaking even%26#39;s about all you can hope for.

';We both wake up and look at each other stunned that we had slept all night.'; I%26#39;m glad dh and I are not the only ones to have this experience!

Nice finish to the report with the winnings at the end! It always makes the trip so much more fun. I cracked up that you got her to tolerate the strip show then held hands all the way back down the strip. Too cute!

Glad you had a good time and sounds like you make a cute couple.

Good t/r, but with all the trips to the Flamingo, why not just stay there next time to save some money on shoes and band-aids! LOL!

PS. This is my 1000th post! :o)

We, too, are going to the Bellagio in July....but we%26#39;ve not stayed there before. Must have been a fun trip if you remember your room # :-)

Barbie you are now officially addicted.

For better or for worse I spend 75% of my life in hotels. I struggle to remember my room number 24 hours after I%26#39;ve checked out!

I%26#39;d have difficulty remembering what floor of the hotel it was for just about every previous Vegas trip I%26#39;ve done, let alone what room number.

barbiegirl, you%26#39;re in serious need of help in the form of a Vegas trip. Maybe you should squeeze one in ahead of September.. :-)

    Mgm Grand

Quick question, I found a promo code for MGM, however the link says it is for players only. Someone suggested signing up for the room and getting the card on line, then picking up a card before I check into the hotel. Has anyone ever done this before, and how did it work? I have reservations there now, but this would save another $150!

Thanks for the help, three weeks and counting!!

    cj

    Mgm Grand

Lots of people do that, and said to just get the card before you check in. Many of them said they were never even asked for the card. Now at Planet Hollywood (formerly Aladdin) they did ask me, but others have said they were not asked. So sign up for their card while your there in case you ever get a promo from them you will not have to worry about it. Have fun, win big.......

    Mgm Grand

Don%26#39;t check in at the airport. Go there and get your card BEFORE you check in. Then check in.

I always book through the players club. Just call them directly and they take all the information. I have never had to show my players card as i give it over the phone when I book. If you are getting a special rate or comps from the players card you will have to show some ID when checking in as they are non-transferrable.

I did that and had no problems. They didn%26#39;t ask for the card either.

Yep, we did this too. Previous poster is right, don%26#39;t check in at the airport on the outside chance they do ask for your card. Go to the casino, get your card, then go check in. We%26#39;ve booked under the player%26#39;s club rates a multiple times and have only once been asked for our card.

Will they ';check'; my players card to notice that I haven%26#39;t even used it yet? I guess that%26#39;s my concern, on how they will know that I received the offer.

    Thanks again for everyone%26#39;s help!

    Cj

I don%26#39;t know if they check it or not but I didnt use mine and I had no problems.

I have reservations at the MGM and thought to get the card before I check in as well. My concern is that what if by chance they won%26#39;t accept it because it hasn%26#39;t been used. Then I won%26#39;t have the reservations for the currant rate they gave me ($89).I%26#39;m traveling with my two daughters so I don%26#39;t want to risk not getting the room. I think I might sign up for the players card and then ask if they will give me the rate when I check in. Can%26#39;t hurt to ask.

Sunlady...I would not do that. I had no problems neither did many other people. Just book get the card before checking in and enjoy!

Suntanlady - had the same experience as Liz (April 2005), used a promo code from this forum for MGM @ $89 a night, didn%26#39;t have a player card. Got my player card when I checked in. No problems.

I%26#39;ve only been late at night, I didn%26#39;t even know they served food! It is for sure possible to show up just for drinks :)

    House of Blues

The HOB has a resteraunt, after 10pm it turns to a bar I think it was kareoke with a live band when we were there, and no cover but there was a queue to get in. You can go to the bar in the restraunt and eat or drink, however if there is a show on you would need to book tickets and pay, the venue is seperate. The mandalaybay web site lists the clubs on each night, i think there is blues upstairs on wed and the prince tribute band ,purple rain on a sunday night.

    best seating for LOVE

We%26#39;re coming to las vegas in Sept and would like to see the Beatles LOVE. What is the best seating area and is it best to book directly through the Mirage.

    Thanks

    best seating for LOVE

Yes, it is best to buy directly from the Mirage website. The theater is in-the-round and very small . Things are going on above you so I wouldn%26#39;t sit too close to the stage. Most any seat will be acceptable. In August I bought the cheapest ticket ($69) and the seat was fine- I was able to see everything.

    best seating for LOVE

Agree 100% with the above poster.

You wont get cheaper seats than at the Mirage website.

I also bought the cheapest tickets (was $69.00 inc,but now $75.90 since they added a fee)

My seats at both my shows were also in the last but one row,and they were great.

    John.

We purchased our tickets the day of the show and got the very LAST row - I was worried at first, but our seats were just fine...

However, we experienced another show during LOVE when an extremely intoxicated woman started screaming and another gentleman in the row behind her started yelling at her to stop screaming...and THEN security had to come and escort her out (flashlights everywhere)...and THEN she kept screaming all the way out of the show and you could still hear her down the stairs!

    We loved BOTH shows! ;)

I agree with above posters......we sat in the very last row ($69 tickets) in January and saw everything really well! Enjoy the show...it%26#39;s great!

We have just bought the $108 tickets so it sounds as though we%26#39;ll be ok then if the $75 seats are good?

I purchased first row balcony for Love back in March and they were very good. Any of the seats in the lower area will cause you to miss part of the show, especially one special effect that was awesome to view from the balcony.

I was going to ask the same question, sorta.. Should we reserve them via the mirage site or try one of those ticket places when we get there?

I knew the last rows were ok to sit in, but just wasn%26#39;t sure if we could get tix the day of the show. I got the %26#39;soundtrack%26#39; from the MIL this weekend.. LOVE it!! Can%26#39;t wait!

chillinfool, I%26#39;m glad those were good seats... they are the ones DW %26amp; I bought for our july trip.

Thanks for all the replies. I%26#39;ll book our seats in the balcony if I can

    Marylin

If you really want to see Love you should get the tickets from the Mirage website. If they show up at all at the 1/2 price kiosks they will not be half price(10-20% off) and there is no guarantee they will be available when you are there. Only you can decide if you want to risk it.

  • ?? regarding rooms at MGM

    Bungalow or Hollywood?

What are the Bungalow King Rooms like? How are the bathrooms?

I know the Hollywood is a 2 room suite but wondering if we really need it? We are two adults and a 13 year old?

We like upscale contemporary accomodations. Not gaudy or glitsy.

Staying at MGM because of what we%26#39;ve read about the pools. Was considering the Mandalay but the pool area sounds better at MGM.

    ?? regarding rooms at MGM

The bungalow king suite is great - the bathroom is nice %26amp; roomy. It has a glass stall shower %26amp; a tub shower so 2 people could shower at the same time if need. There%26#39;s a double sink with plenty of room for your toiletries. There%26#39;s a very small couch (not really a couch but can%26#39;t think of another name for it at the moment), comfy chair, and a tble with 2 chairs. There%26#39;s a mini fridge with a little sink. Good sized closet. The TV is on a turntable so it can face the bed or the sitting area. With a cot I think the 3 of you could be comfortable. If it were me however I%26#39;d prefer the 2 rooms especially if it%26#39;s an extended stay.

We loved the pools at MGM. Last June when we were there it was very easy to find chairs.

    ?? regarding rooms at MGM

Where going for 5 nights. Is the sofa a sleepsofa?

No it%26#39;s not a sleep sofa....... it%26#39;s kind of a cross between a loveseat %26amp; chaise lounge......... definitely would not recommend for sleeping %26amp; I%26#39;m only 5 2%26#39;. It%26#39;s too small for that.

check out the thread i%26#39;m about to post reviewing my trip and stay at MGM.

1st time to vegas in december

    Hi everone,

I am taking my wife to vegas for her 40th in the middle of december.

Anyone been at this time of year before? What is the weather like? Does it get dark very early? We are staying at the Venetian.

Is the helicopter trip to GC worth the money æ‹¢300 ?

Can not wait to tell the missus.

1st time to vegas in december

The average high- mid to upper 50s. Some years it was in the 70s at that time while other years the highs never made it out of the 30s! There is no way to predict what the weather will be like while you are there- you must check a weather site just before leaving. Since the temps can vary so much, your best bet would be to bring clothes that can be layered- tops with long sleeves, mediumweight sweater and a lined jack-so you will be prepared for any kind of weather.

    www.wrh.noaa.gov/vef/climate/page14.php

Sunset at that time of the year occurs at about 4:30 PM.

1st time to vegas in december

We were in Vegas this past December 14th through the 19th. It was pretty cold that week. The days started out in the low 40%26#39;s and usually got to upper 40%26#39;s and low 50%26#39;s. At night is was in the low 30%26#39;s. It even snowed when we were there! Bring some winter wear. Sorry, I can%26#39;t help you with the helicopter trip.

Sunset on December 15th will be at 4:29 p.m. Pretty early in my book. Weather is not predictable this far out, check a weather website just before you leave for a more accurate forecast. We can give you averages from years past, but that is no guarantee that this year will be the same.

What does it take to get comped (@ MB, say)

Anyone have first hand experience with getting comps for playing @ Mandalay Bay?

For the sake of argument, say $25/hand blackjack. What does it take to get meals comped. Is it just a function of time spent at the tables?

What does it take to get comped (@ MB, say)

OK I just found this on cheapovegas.com, maybe this answers my question:

    ';Who Gets Comps? The slot club serves several properties and pays a fair cash rebate on slots, and half as much on video poker. How much you think they paid a consultant to come up with that? If you%26#39;re a nickel or casual quarter player, you can bet your sweet bippy you won%26#39;t get nothing. The $100-$200 bettors will start seeing comps.';

Still interesting in first-hand experiences if anyone has any. Thanks.

What does it take to get comped (@ MB, say)

The best advice is to sign up for the Players card for whereever you%26#39;re playing - all the hotels have them and just hand the card over whenever your playing at a table.

The points add up in the end.

I just read though that the table games don%26#39;t apply for getting points. I think I read that on the Player%26#39;s Club website. You slowly rack up points on a slot machine, but not at table games. But, you can immediately ask for food comps when done playing at the table game. But that you don%26#39;t get a continually rising number throughout your play. ?? Does that sound right?

    Rule of thumb%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

For every 1000.00 gambled, YOU might get a Free meal at the Buffet.

Cheaper not too worry about comps. Enjoy yourself with out the pressure to PERFORM hoping to get the illusive COMP.

at MB $25 min will probably not get rated.

The easy answer is this: CALL AND ASK. each casino has different guidelines, the hosts will always talk to you and give you basic guidelines, during your play you can ASK at any time where you stand.

No one here will be as much an expert as the hotel themselves. Table games are different animals than machines - don;t confuse the 2.

Not too long ago we discussed this in depth. Click on my name and try to find the thread.

ktown, let me reiterate Bridgefan%26#39;s take. Do not confuse slots and table games. With the necessary players card the hotel knows exactly what your total slot play is. They can then precisely figure their ';hold'; and your % payback from that. Table games are much more subjective casino to casino. @MB, you will need to play alot of hours at $25 to get much. That%26#39;s for sure. Do call the hotel, ask for casino host and one of them will tell you. And right before you checkout, ask the host to ';see what they can do';..they still may knock off a few bucks from your bill from meals charged to your room. Good luck!!

My last trip to MB/THE Hotel (last summer) I was comped all three nights. I was betting about $25-$50 a hand and NOT that many hours, I didn%26#39;t think.

Then Mirage comped me for 3 nights in November--same basic play--and TI comped me 2 nights NYE with again, the same basic amount of play. We use our Players Card EVERYWHERE we can (both slots and table play) and then at the end of the visit go to the desk and I never ask--they just offer it (plus food and bev the last 2 trips). Maybe I should smarten up and ask for something :)

We leave tonight for 3 nights at TI and I was comped ahead of time with a suite, etc. I haven%26#39;t decided if I like that idea--seems to put more pressure on me to play at TI (at least in my mind).

    4 hours and counting!

note: wellheynow doesn%26#39;t get it either. One must read down to find out, surprise!, it%26#39;s not one person%26#39;s play @ $25-50 but two people and there%26#39;s slots involved...

How would it be 2 people%26#39;s play? One one card at the tables?

Well... you get the players card at your hotel (and any other you feel like getting a card for) and then play. Charge some meals to your room. When you check out they will let you know if any of it can be comped. The places you didn%26#39;t stay at might send you some offers for future visits to their hotel.

I had WAY WAY WAY better comps for less gambling action at NYNY (so I think that is the MGM-Mirage group of hotels. I gambled at penny and nickel slots exclusively and a lot (for me) but also wandered to other hotels and didn%26#39;t always gamble and I got about 3 (two person) meals paid for in the end.

I gambled much more and much longer when I stayed at Flamingo, and when combining MY number with my travel companions after five days, we got a measley $13 comp toward one meal. Ugghh.

  • Looking to catch an ear..difference between vegas and home

Well, it all starts out with a night out with a buddy. You get to his house, listen to music, talking but otherwise boring....wishing there was a bit of excitement.

Then he/she goes to bed at 11pm....well your still ready to go. So, instead of walking to your seperate rooms or roaming the strip or maybe hitting a table or machine solo you make the trek to your section of city/town or suburb with the non-descript lights, lack-luster people watching and simple photo copies of everywhere on earth like it.

Head to a pub/bar/club drink the same stuff over and over again hoping not to get the wrong drink telling the same story to the same person twice realizing it%26#39;s the same waitress/bartender you had and are going to have the rest of the night while also realizing that your seeing the same people you would kind of like to get away from.

Then, for entertainment you dump money into the megatouch machine (or other game machine located on the bar) you lose, lose and lose some more, then you put more money in and eventually WIN...only to realize...pays out nothing...

Then your ready to go home...oh cripes...A TAB...you actually have to pay for your drinks AND TIP...well, considering my winnings this is a big dissappointment.

Then you go home where the wife (for some of you) is waiting. Sneak in only to find that the dog somehow heard you(again only for some). Since he is happy to see you home you give him a few pats.

Then you realize you stink like alchohol and cigs...hmmm...a few excuses come to mind for example ';I got tossed in jail'; only to realize there is no smoking in jail and she would have had to bail you out again...no go there. ';I was watching dr. phil and became distraught'; just won%26#39;t work. ';My stomach was infected and I was trying to disinfect it'; won%26#39;t explain the smoke smell...so...

You decide to take a shower. While in there you decide ';well the normal shampoo probably won%26#39;t work but maybe the rasberry scented shampoo will cover it'; then you look at the soap ';well lever 2000 smells good but no match for marlboro 100%26#39;s so I%26#39;ll try her vanilla-coconut-hazelnut-capuchino-strawberry shortcake body wash'; so you scrub it on with that poofy yet abrasive, invasive scrubby spongey rough torture device known as a loofa.

You put it on thinking you smell great. Brush your teeth, gargle and head to bed. You melt into the bed, barely cover yourself and a few minutes later hear a sigh next to you.......

    ';..sigh';....silence.....';what stinks, you smell like a french horror (to avoid profanity errors), where were you the last 2 hours, your mouthwash (that she bought you) is way too strong, it%26#39;s gagging me';

    Oh how I wish it were vegas where she comes into bed 1/2 hour after me and says ';you smell good'; ';did you win'; ';do you want to eat at olives tomorrow?'; ';can we go shopping'; ';what casinos for tomorrow?';

Oh what a difference several 1000 miles makes. The long and short, in vegas you can do no wrong. And you%26#39;ll never be reminded to take out the garbage or be asked why the kitchen light is still on or why your still up.

I love that town. 31 more days....

    Share your thoughts...

Looking to catch an ear..difference between vegas and home

Well to simplify it for you...

A night in vegas...get up in the morning..afternoon...whatever...meet up with your buddy and start downing enjoyable frothy beverages.

At 2am you and your friend slip out onto the strip because niether of you could even hope to get a wink of sleep. Incredible sights everywhere, people of all creed, color, shape, size, ethnic backgroud brushing past you.

After walking a bit and taking in the sights you dip into another casino. Sitting down at some slot machine that is just oozing luck (yeah right). As you and your friend sit at a machine a waitress comes by, if she isn%26#39;t busy maybe a little chatter and off she goes to fetch you whatever drink you could dream up at the moment.

While waiting you play the machine...up..down..up..down..finally a small payout, nothing to retire on but enough to create momentary happiness.

The waitress arrives drink on a tray, just the way you asked for it. You take yours and it costs you nothing but a few dollar tip and a smile and you don%26#39;t mind tipping considering you won a bit (hopefully).

Finally at 4am it%26#39;s time to cash in the chips so to speak. Head up to the room, shower up real quick and realize your walking on tip toes for no reason...husband/wife isn%26#39;t even back yet.

While contemplating going back down for a bit more fun the counterpart gets back, slight stagger in the step and very very happy. WAY too happy to care that you still have the slightest scent of cigs clinging to you. WHIVSIV.......

POINT is, for most people every day life is nothing like vegas life. In alot of ways totally opposite actually. It%26#39;s what makes vegas an adult playland that we all love, all for various reasons (obviously my reasons aren%26#39;t always going to be the same as others). Just felt like sharing my thoughts on it was all.

Looking to catch an ear..difference between vegas and home

    Another huh?

damonkeyboy, you need vegas badly, I hope you can wait the 31 days, you have way too much time on your hands. I guess that is what this forum is for though!

I thought it was an enjoyable read with thoughts to match some of mine except for the smoking thing. Not sure what made it hard for RU to read unless maybe he isn%26#39;t very literate.

    Wow...

I go to Vegas to gamble. I have one casino here at home ten minutes away and maybe 8 or 9 casino%26#39;s less than an hour%26#39;s drive. Since I no longer drink and have quit smoking, can%26#39;t relate to that. The wife did chastise me for coming home 4:00 in the morning, Monday. Spent 7 hrs at the tables. Sounds like your jonesing pretty bad for Vegas. You do need a Vegas Fix.

I%26#39;m not sure if it is the fact that I%26#39;m missing vegas as I was there just 2 months ago and am going again june 16th.

Just kind of realizing that this trip will be my last for a while. Have a baby coming in november and planning to buy a bigger place the end of this year or beginning of next so probably won%26#39;t get to see much outside of the everyday for a while.

I think it is premature missing of vegas. Not that my life $ucks but vegas is the one get away that is a complete escape for me in nearly every way.

Oh well, on the bright side I%26#39;ll have a baby and a new house :0).

How old do you think he/she should be before I teach him/her blackjack and texas holdem%26#39;?

MonkeyMan-I got your post completely.. Luckily I usually inform the wife well in advance if it%26#39;s going to be one of the late nights with the boys, so I don%26#39;t really get grief for it. Like I said, I%26#39;m lucky! BUT-I do hear you on the difference.

I can get up at 8am in vegas, shower and be ready to go, kiss the wife and tell her to call when she is out of the shower (which gives me another 40 minutes to keep up drinking beer and gambling and finally get her a bagel or muffin in the lobby), and I plan to meet her up at the room. At home, there is nowhere to go get breakfast beers and/or gamble, so I always wait the hour to hour and a half before we have to leave, and leaving usually consists of errands, grocery shopping, and home only to change and cut the grass.

    Location, location, location!

Congratulations on both counts. Looks like you%26#39;re finally going to hit a jackpot...new baby, new house.

My life at home is like the movie ';Groundhog%26#39;s Day';. Get up, dress for work, make lunches, go to work, return home, cook dinner, eat, spend as much time as I can on this forum when I am not doing dishes, clothes, grocery shopping or other household chores, go to bed, get up, repeat. In Las Vegas, I follow no schedule or answer to anyone else (though my husband and I do coordinate efforts for meals, etc.), sleep when I%26#39;m tired (and that doesn%26#39;t happen as easily or as often as at home), eat when I%26#39;m hungry (or not), don%26#39;t worry about cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, babysitting with grandkids, washing clothes, etc.

My user name says it all...LVescape.

    Le Reve - revised version

Hi, my husband and I saw the show 2 years ago, we are visiting very soon and have read it has been revised. Has anyone seen the old and new version? If so, is there much of a difference? Is it worth spending the money to go again? Many thanks in advance.

    Le Reve - revised version

I can%26#39;t imagine how they would make it all that much different. They still have to work around the constructs of the set, which by the end of the show had me wondering, ';just how many ways can you fall into the water?';. Maybe I%26#39;m burned out on Cirque type shows, but with complaints from some that Cirque shows are too similar from show to show, I doubt the same show would offer enough to justify the cost of another round. You might call the concierge or ticket office at the wynn and ask their take on what has changed.

    Le Reve - revised version

Seen it both ways, not much of a difference. Actually to be completely honest I can%26#39;t recall recognizing anything that really changed much in the show.

Many thanks for your prompt responses. The Vegas Sun made it sound like it was a completely different show so we were contemplating going again. However, on the advice given it appears that would be a waste of money. Thanks again.

Would like to take my girlfriend here for her birthday. It will be my third time and her first so i would like to stay somewhere nice for a couple our age(25 and 23).Any ideas, comments, and etc. are welcomed. Thanks 2 everyone

I%26#39;d stay central strip so you have easy access to everything. You%26#39;ll probably do a lot of you sightseeing by walking, especially since she%26#39;s never been, and being right in the middle of things would be a good start.

    jan 11-jan 14th 2008

a Major convention (CES - consumer electronic show) ends on the 10th so you may get come residual high prices if people are staying over that weekend. I would make sure I%26#39;m on the mailing lists for my favorite hotels (based on your age TI would be good),

  • KENO - drinks

Heading to LV in a couple of months. My wife isn%26#39;t much of a gambler, but is content with playing Keno (lounge - not the Keno slots) where she only SLOWLY loses her money. Of course, she doesn%26#39;t mind having a drink or two while playing. Are there any strip casinos that still offer free drinks in their KENO areas. We were there last year and I recall getting drings at Bally%26#39;s and TI, but don%26#39;t know if that%26#39;s still the case. Thanks for any input.

    KENO - drinks

As far as I know, the drinks are still plentiful, even in the Keno Lounges.

    KENO - drinks

Yep, they still offered them in November and Feburary - however, the service to some of those lounges really blows.

If the Keno lounge is still there at the Wynn, it is the nicest one you will ever see, and yes to drink service too! It was beyond the buffet.

At TII too, but you have to get a coupon from the Keno sales person.

    Grand Canyon Helicoptor / airplane

    Hi

Can anyone recommend a good tour for the Grand Canyon by air?

I am after the best time at the canyon possible , so something thats not a 2 mins ride over the canyon......... anybode recommedn a company

Looking for two people in mid july......... are all helicoptors air conditioned?

    Stuey

    Grand Canyon Helicoptor / airplane

UK brochures tend to use only two companies ie Papillon and Heli-USA.

I talked to the concierge at the Paris, and she found me several companies including one that was half the price of the others (cannot remember the name of the company though).

The two they recommended was Maverick and Sundance. I chose Sundance. It was a limo pick up, heli flight to the Grand Canyon, a half hour landing with a light lunch and the return trip.

I was tempted by the half price option but as we were on an anniversary trip, I stumped up extra, just in case the cheaper company turned out to be really bad.

We went in July. It was 100+ at the Grand Canyon. The chopper did have air con.

You can get trips which includes a heli tour and a river trip, or heli tour and ranching.

We met someone from the UK who did the ranch combo trip. They did not think much of it.

  • Vegas 4th July - Clubbing

My friend and I will be in Vegas from 3rd-6th July and despite looking all over can find nothing special being done for 4th July, which I can%26#39;t believe is correct.

Can anyone tell me what the score is with 4th July clubs in Vegas, especially as it%26#39;s a Wednesday night which is in theory one of the quieter nights.

Especially interested if I am better booking tickets ASAP, although as mentioned above can%26#39;t see anyone selling any.

    Vegas 4th July - Clubbing

4th July is nothing special in Vegas. You%26#39;ll find almost nothing different than normal.

If you put in 4th July in the seach box, you%26#39;ll see a number of posts about this and they all say the same thing. Vegas doesn%26#39;t celebrate 4th July really.

    Vegas 4th July - Clubbing

As previous post said, July 4 is no big deal in LV. Clubs which are normally closed on Wednesdays won%26#39;t be opening specially and those which do open will just be having their regular nights.

Start believing it, LV tourist areas are anti-patriotic. Only thing special is higher rates if the fourth falls on a weekend.

If you don%26#39;t believe it- look at what was available last year:

    reviewjournal.com/entertainment/鈥?/a>

I will be in Vegas over the 4th as well. I mentioned to the desk clerk yesterday that people on this forum said nothing is done on the 4th. She said that was incorrect and that there will be fireworks up and down the strip. I guess I%26#39;ll have to wait to see if it%26#39;s true.:)

I%26#39;m staying at Bally%26#39;s over the 4th, and another poster here is staying at Bellagio over the 4th, and both of our hotels have said there will be fireworks on the strip. I don%26#39;t know how spectacular they will be, but we%26#39;ll watch for them. Not sure about anything clubs might do.

    Las Vegas this summer ?

I just went to Vegas and toured Excalibur as part of a hotel group. They have done a remodel and its really nice, a great value. Anyways thought I would give a shout out for Excalibur.

    Las Vegas this summer ?

We used to stay there and it was fine..They were always nice to us..and we could walk to other casino%26#39;s....but finally got tired of all the kids...and it was in need of a makeover...so good..glad they did that...Slotto

    Las Vegas this summer ?

Sounds like HotTandorPlace did some good. I hope that part of the remodel included disposal of all that hairy rat poo.

They under went a $30 million dollar room remodel. They thought of everything. They have plasma TV%26#39;s and radios with iPod inputs. It%26#39;s the same place it used to be.

This infomercial is brought to you by Gillette, the best a man can get

Not even. I was just stoked a hotel finally put in an iPod radio. I can%26#39;t stand going on trips and not being able to play it in my room.

    better to check in early?

we are arriving at 10:30am, should we try to get an early check in or should we just go ahead and enjoy the city and head to the hotel around 3 when checkout begins? are the chances of getting a nicer view better earlier or later? we have a car, so no worries about bags etc.

    better to check in early?

Never hurts to try early.. we got our room at about 9am last time and an upgrade!

    better to check in early?

I always try to check in as soon as I arrive- no matter how early. I don%26#39;t think it matters when you check in- as soon as rooms become available they assign them.

I%26#39;d say check in. Even if your room isn%26#39;t ready, you can leave your bags with the bell service, where it will be safe while you wander around.

    :-)

    Slix

I%26#39;d say check in early. You can leave your bags and they can put them in your room when it%26#39;s ready. I think there is also a better chance of an upgrade earlier in the day. VHM said that the hotels start upgrading people first thing in the morning, so if they know for sure that you are going to show up for your reservation, you may get a nice surprise!

    great advice. thank you all.

Sister: not disputing what VHM said, but I could have sworn that I%26#39;ve seen another posting several months ago from someone who worked in one of the hotels that said the opposite: that they gave out all of the regular rooms first and then upgraded, so that a better chance of an upgrade is actually in the evening? Aaack, now I%26#39;m confused!! Maybe we need some VHM clarification??

Well, I can%26#39;t find the old thread, but basically he said they upgrade people in the morning in part because it%26#39;s easier to sell standard rooms to walkins or people making last-minute reservations.

    Actually, here it is:

    ';We start looking at the reservations in the morning. Hosts provide us their lists, then we turn to our loyal guests, then we look at roomtypes specific. Check-in is not until 3 - you are correct, but we start working our reservations getting them setup first thing in the morning. If we waited tell 3pm to start arranging things - with over 1000 rooms things would be out of control.';

    …tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g45963-i10-k11140…

Thanks Sister. I can see that VHM has a certain system which is all well and good, but my feeble brain tells me that wouldn%26#39;t it be more advantageous for a hotel to hold their better, nicer, bigger rooms for last just in case there are walk-ins so that they can charge them higher prices? Then when the demand starts to go down later in the day (or night) upgrade people or give those to the folks who paid for standard rooms but since those have already been assigned ...

Again, not disputing what VHM says, but trying to see the logic. Of course, if I were logical, I wouldn%26#39;t go to Vegas and gamble my money away!

I always check in when I arrive and I%26#39;ve been upgraded several times both early and late. It seems the rooms are assigned as they become available.

    What now?

We have reservations for Oct. 14th-19th, but---after reading the schedule for conventions during that month like some ( 60,000) give or take a few, I%26#39;m having second thoughts about going at that time, will it be really crowded? will every one be rushing to the airport on the 19th to head out ? Now ';im thinking Nov. 4-9. what do you think?

    What now?

I know I should have checked the convention calendar first, but I didn%26#39;t, so now I%26#39;m stuck!!

    What now?

We%26#39;re going at the end of October! How do I check Convention Calendar?

i%26#39;m confused - are you asking should you change dates? or are you saying you are stuck?

is the convention ending on oct 18?

the town can absord 60K visitors - minimums may be raised at some casinos, airport may be busy depending on day of week. all in all avoid the casinos near the convention OR change dtaes if you aren%26#39;t stuck.

I am in town often when it is busy - make needed dinner res in advance and know that waits for some things will be longer. NASCAR and rodeo much more than 60K

Googled it .... OMG!!!!! There%26#39;s a conference for 130,000 starting on my husband%26#39;s birthday!

I was out there last week when the Kitchen and Bath convention was in town and that was about 60,000 people. I did not notice any

change in the amount of people. In the morning, it was alittle busy in the hotel. 60,000 people really is not that much for Vegas.

Gracie---to check the convention schedule go to www.lvcva.com

Bridgefan---what I was saying, and meant by being stuck, is should I go ahead and stick with Oct. 14-19 even if there alot of people there for conventions or would I be better off going in Nov. when there is less convention people there.... sorry if I confused you---sometimes I confuse myself LOL

60 k is not so bad for vegas-better to avoid the big ones such as CES

I agree with the last poster. Just try and stay away from the convention location.

I was in Vegas a year ago, January, when both the CES and porn convention were there. We were able to navigate just fine, but just gambled. We didn%26#39;t have dinner reservations, but ate at South Point. We were also able to book MamaMia the same day.

Can%26#39;t help you with the airport, sorry. We left after both had finished.

Its fun to see what others plan to do..ok heres mine...

    5 days

Whats your agenda for your next trip.....

Drink, gamble, go to the pool

More importantly, it does not include a pager, cell phone, driving LOL!

Whats your agenda for your next trip.....

Staying at Gold Coast, Flamingo and The Orleans but plan to do the South Strip thing this time. Haven%26#39;t seen Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo or the Trop and a couple of others. Rented a car for the last 3 days so will be driving to off-strip locations, Red Rock Canyon, Suncoast Casino, Sam%26#39;s Town, South Point, Henderson and definately a visit to Ellis Isand. Bought the ACG so we plan to sign up for a few more players cards and do the buffet thing.

sun, drink, gamble, drink, eat, drink, shop, drink, people watch, drink., walk the strip, drink....off to bed for far too short of time and

    Repeat for 6 days!

My agenda? The same as always. Win as much money as I can.

    Exactly Janpo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don%26#39;t like a real agenda either. When we get there for a 4 night stay on Labor Day, the only things I want to do are eat at Hugo%26#39;s and/or Prime, maybe see LOVE and the only really important thing I want to do is meet Firsttimer! It doesn%26#39;t matter if any of the other things don%26#39;t happen.

Monday-Ideally, arrive around 2 pm July 23rd, catch a cab ';no tunnel, please'; and go check in at TI. Get acquainted with the hotel, grab some food somewhere, relax, people watch, drink, gamble, go to Tangerine and gawk at all the sexy young things, get smacked upside the head by DW, go back to room WAAAAYYY past our bedtime, enjoy the comfy beds at TI.

  • Manchester to LAs Vegas

    Hi

Can anyone recommend a flight from Manchester to Vegas in mid july? preferably direct

I have seen BMI and Mytravel advertise, anybody any other option?

Has anybody flown the route with Mytravel or BMI? Would you recommend it?

    Rough prices?

    Thanks

    Stuey

    Manchester to LAs Vegas

Just back from a non-stop bmi flight from MAN to LAS. The flight was fine, no complaints even though it was 2-1/2 horus late in leaving for the return leg. Food was OK, just usual airline food. They charge for alcoholic drinks, soft drinks are free.

We paid more than we should have this time, but I was desperate to book it. £640 each inc the addtional APD, booked on 1 December. Booked on 3 January to go back in November and got a special promotion price of £389. Brother and his wife are going in a couple of weeks and booked 8 weeks ahead at £586.

    Manchester to LAs Vegas

Forgot to mention, the breakfast coming back was only a small bowl of fruit, a blueberry muffin and a yogurt, nothing hot.

Paid £589 to fly direct both ways with BMI in June.

On previous visits have flown via Chicago both ways a rush on the inwards only 11/2 hr gap inbetween flights outbound no probs 31/2 hr

gap. Last year to keep flight costs down flew direct to Vegas with BMI and back via Chicago United Airlines then BMI from Chicago to Manchester.

Direct flights are the best option but you can usually get flight costs down if you are willing to change in the US.

Not sure about mytravel, heard some sketchy reports but never used them myself.

I am flying BMI in mid July to LA via Vegas, where I will be staying fora couple of nights. Paid about £550 for the flights with Opodo.

I think the only direct flights from Manchester are BMI and Mytravel, and generally speaking Mytravel seemed to have cheaper prices but didn%26#39;t fly on the days I wanted.

I%26#39;ve heard good things about BMI generally. When I was looking at prices for my trip (and to be fair I had to be very specific about days and wanted to stay in Vegas before heading to my final destination) I found that Vegas flights tended to be rather expensive in comparison to other US cities.

In terms of indirect flights, less than 11 hours direct, or up to 20 hours indirect with the prospect of transferring through busy US airports, I wonder if you would have wished you%26#39;d paid to fly direct once you are actually doing it?

The BMI flight time gets you into Vegas at a decent hour too, about midday or a little earlier? More Vegas fun time. :)

You could also try checking out Asda travel and expedia. I%26#39;ve found them to give excellent prices for travel in the US

    Hi Stuey

We fly with MyTravel every year (5th time in 7weeks), and have never had any problems. They only fly out to Vegas on a Sunday or Weds, but flight times are good. We have not been delayed (yet!!!) You do have to pay for all drinks and any snacks, but the meals they provide are quite nice. We flew last year Premierair Gold, but to be honest you pay the extra £200 pp for free drinks and 4'; more leg room, not really worth it, so we are just flying normal class this year.

If you look on Going Places website they have holidays in mid July for 1 week to Vegas for about £700 flight %26amp; Hotel staying at Luxor or Monte Carlo, both of which are good hotels.

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me. :-)

I%26#39;ve just booked flights with MyTravel.com for my first trip to Vegas from Manchester 11th July for a week £324pp inc Taxes was impressed to say the least.

Have flown BMI before and have always been impressed with their service. This June (only 4 weeks to go - hoorah) we have booked US airways flights from Manchester to LV. There is a change in Philadelphia but we ave done it before and it is OK. Flights are much cheaper this was - we paid £380 I think and booked via Travelbag. I am travelling this time with my mum who is in her 70%26#39;s so to be honest a break in the flight is a good thing for her. The other plus I have found re breaking up journey to LV is that the airport there always seems packed and quite chaotic - so to clear immigration / customs at the hub airport is usually a plus.

going to vegas for 1 week on 20th june, going with my travel, booked to go direct fom manchester to vegas, however just got a letter informing us that it is direct going but coming back via Glasgow

    Hi

I am going with BMI (first time)in June to Las Vegas, got direct flights for £416 through E-Bookers,I booked my flights in March after watching prices on various sites, although the prices have steadily risen since.

I have flown long-haul twice with Mytravel, once to Jamaica, once to Mexico all I can say is NEVER AGAIN, total fiasco both times, lets say I would rather not go on a holiday if the only available flights were with Mytravel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Pussy Cat Dolls

Can someone give me information on how to see the show. Do you buy tickets or reserve a table or just pay at the door? Also do you get entry into Pure? I usually find the answers to my questions by using the Search but can%26#39;t find a good answer on this one. Going in May for my first trip.

    Thanks

    Pussy Cat Dolls

I%26#39;m actually wondering the same thing you are ctolive! We%26#39;re going May 10-13th.

    Pussy Cat Dolls

i remember seeing a sign for entry into PURE after the pussycat dolls show... but it might have been because it was a weekday.

    there%26#39;s a little info here:

    www.vegas.com/nightclubs/pussycat/index.html

`When i was there the last time i showed up about 90 minutes before the first show and one of the bouncers was stamping peoples hands who were going to see the PCD%26#39;s. Show your ID and he will stamp your hand to get in. Make sure you enter the PCD entrance and not the Pure entrance. I got in about 30 minutes before the first show and i was able to walk around to all the clubs as they connect to the PCD Lounge. I did not even have to pay. I don%26#39;t know if they have changed that but it is worth a try. Bring a camera as you can take as many pictures as you wish. Good Luck and have fun. I can%26#39;t wail to get there May 29th.

I have the same questions you did and we are leaving on sunday to go and dont have these answers either. Please email me if you can and let me know what you found out.

    Thanks bspecial78@yahoo.com

    From the link vancouverkitty gave.

The Pussycat Dolls Lounge is a fairly small room adjoining the larger Pure nightclub, which guests can access directly from the lounge.

We live in the Boston area. We have good chains like Legal Sea Foods. But most chains, the food is mass produced -

    Like Quality over Quantity.

There lots of info on here on upscale dining-just do a search-

    Joes Stone Crab,

    Aquaknox,

Emeril has a few restaurants as well inlcuding the Fish house at MGM whihc is quite good

We like Mon Ami Gabi at Paris-great food and service every visit.

We had terrific food on our recent trip. We did Mesa Grill at Caesar%26#39;s, Olives at the Bellagio, and AquaKnox at the Venetian. Between my husband and myself, we did not not have a single bad course at any of them and the food was interesting.

If you were going to do a buffet - Paris for breakfast is out of this world except that you%26#39;re too full to eat the rest of the day!

I second Mesa Grill. Also Sensi in Bellagio.

another vote for Grand Lux asked to be seated ';outside'; with a view of the casino - great people watching.

    Zefferinos at the venetian

If you are looking for comtemporary, upbeat, fun with upscale food I have to recommend FIX at Bellagio. We went there last year and intend to make it a regular stop everytime we go. The music is louder, the decor dark and loungy and the food is wonderful!! I thought they had the most interesting china I had seen in awhile!!

How about Rosemary%26#39;s? That%26#39;s one place I would love to try.

    cheap tix to shows

Does anyone know of a service in Las Vegas where you can get cheap tickets to shows, maybe at the last minute? My boyfriend and I are going to The Hotel for two nights over Memeorial Day weekend. I was thinking about trying to get tix to Spamalot, or Love.

    thanks!

    cheap tix to shows

I doubt you will find discounted tickets to either show. You may even have trouble finding any tickets last minute.

    cheap tix to shows

The 1/2 price kiosks do sometimes have tickets for some big shows but it is usally for 10-20% off. Just because they show up on occasion doesn%26#39;t mean they will be available when you are there. Most of the tickets available will be for shows that are not A list shows. If you really want to see those shows you should buy them directly from the hotel%26#39;s website. You don%26#39;t have to buy the most expensive tickets for Love. When I went in August I bought the cheapest ticket- $69- and the seats were fine- I could see everything.

Here is the website for tix4tonight:

    http://www.tix4tonight.com/

There is another kiosk at the Coke bottle near MGM.

What Trip Advisor has taught me...

And now, the end is near..... off I go on Thursday, finally flying across the water to the West Coast, a trip that has been a year in the planning, 3 weeks with alot to see of which Vegas is the potential jewel in the crown. I challenge anyone to have read more posts in these forums that I have in this past year! I feel I now know the regular posters, some moody, some controversial, some with obvious gambling/drink problems! but all have offered little nuggets of advice and for that I thank you all....

I knew next to nothing about Vegas a year ago but thanks to this forum I now know/will do amongst countless other facts/opinions the following..

    - Paris has a great buffet...

    - Downtown slots are %26#39;looser%26#39;

    - Ignore the porn slappers/time share sharks

    - Go to the Peppermill Fireside Lounge

    - Great views from Voodoo Lounge at the Rio

    - Don%26#39;t walk from Stratosphere at night

    - Casinos are far apart

    - Drink lots of water

    - Don%26#39;t %26#39;stiff%26#39; a waitress

    - I know how to play blackjack/VP/slots now!

    - Have a gambling budget and stick to it

    - $20, will it work, we%26#39;ll see...!

    - MGM is large

    - Getting a helicopter to the Grand Canyon

    - See the Bellagio fountain

    - There%26#39;s a bus and a monorail!

    - Buy tickets for shows on the day

    - Always play max bet

    - WHIVSIV

    And so much more....

Many thanks to the local experts and those who have written trip reports, I%26#39;ll try to write one when I get back, hopefully it won%26#39;t say %26#39;lost all my dignity and money, didn%26#39;t do anything I planned%26#39;.

Thanks alot to the local experts and especially all the following who have taken time to offer their help....

lynnlin, Gamblerman, sonofagun, 1976cac, Veagashomeboy, travelcdn, laurasue13, Tyr52, BigVegasFan, bridgefan1, mtroh, vancouverkitty, TIALAURA, BoardingPass, ads, RudyA, Sharon211, VegasMom2Kids, Healey04, lsnyder, Warmwinds, grayhorse89, LeighOhio, Loveland, gus75220, 20TN40, joemole48, mhn14, ZekeKelso, LVGoer, teachrsue, janpo1, MissKIA, Nudgra, sarahmidd and everyone else who has ever posted on the site.

Have found the Vegas forum to be excellent and have really enjoyed reading it over the past year, it%26#39;s part of the whole holiday experience planning/reading, almost sad it%26#39;s nearly at the end and I%26#39;ve got to go..... NOT!

    Cheers.

What Trip Advisor has taught me...

I won%26#39;t be far behind you as we leave on the Sunday. Can%26#39;t wait. I too am addicted to these forums and read them every day, always hoping to pick up some little snippet of news.

Where are you staying? We are at the Aladdin/PH and the IP. Have 6 shows lined up, including Elton John, Tom Jones and Phantom, and loads of places to eat.

Hope you have a great time and look forward to reading your trip report if I can find it after 2 weeks away.

What Trip Advisor has taught me...

    Hi Incubus,

We will be there 3 weeks exact from today so are getting pretty excited as well. This will be our 5th trip to the States and the second to Las Vegas. When we went the first time in 2005 we didn%26#39;t expect much from it but were really overwhelmed by everything. I wouldn%26#39;t say that it is the best part of the whole trip but it is something not to be missed. You have to see it at least once in your life. Isn%26#39;t Tripadvisor the greatest site ever? I don%26#39;t know who set it up but that guy deserves a medal !! I have learned so much from it and use it every day. I wish you a great trip ! It will be one of the most impressive experiences in your life.!

I will also be there 3 weeks from today and I cannot wait. I found trip advisor a few years ago and still to this day find out about new and exciting things on this board.

I hope everyone has a great time and wins lots of money!!!!!

    Jaco %26amp; Lowrance:

Did we forget to help this guy out?? I was hoping to see my name in lights.

Just kidding :) Have a wonderful trip incubus....i agree with you...half the fun is in the planning and learning about the destination.

    Win BIG.

Ah, you see, now I feel like a right lemon, it goes without saying that all 3 of you,and more, have helped immensly, anyone reading these boards soon get to know that! As for Jaco%26#39;s trip reports.....should turn them into a movie!

I knew I shouldn%26#39;t have started writing names!

Have fun! and don%26#39;t foget your fanny pack..lol

    ';always play max bet';

look at the big $$$ in strip casino,

    this may give you idea on who wins '; play max bet ';

phew Sweetsherry...glad you spoke... I thought I had failed to help...

But good ole Incubus is a stand up person.... included me. =)

    I can stop crying now.... %26lt;sniff%26gt;

Incubus you read my mind!!! :) What I have left as we are so close to our trip!!!

I have been on only a month or so and have enjoyed every minute. I even got to play on the V V trip...it was fun. Now we leave in 48 hours and the list you have up is almost a duplicate of what I was going to say. Even though this isn%26#39;t first trip by far I have learned alot. (If you don%26#39;t learn something new everyday you can get brain freeze and get stuck in a rut. Ruts bad....Vegas good.)

I have to thank Lowrance, teachersue, 2b, stripcruiser, lots of the folks in your list and a cast of thousands!

I hope I can write a decent report after returning.

Okay....now that I%26#39;m over my selfishness and feelin%26#39; sorry for myself... Lmaoooooooo

Have a GREAT time in Vegas!!!!!!

    And WIN lots of money!

  • MGM, Mriage, Flamingo ?????????

I leave in 20 days YEAH!. It is our 1st trip celebrating our 25th. I have the following rates for 4 nights.

    Mirage - 536.00

    MGM - 469.96

    Flamingo - 420.00

We are not going to gamble much, but do want to spend some time by the pool (under a tree). We will also have a car so we can drive. Is it worth spending the extra money on the mirage or should I pick one of the others. I know Mirage has a great location, but will the MGM be bad if we have a car? Flamingo is the cheapest, but MGM is only 50.00 for 4 days. HELP!!!!!

    MGM, Mriage, Flamingo ?????????

I%26#39;m an MGM fan just because they have the best pool, and good room service, and a nice spa. So if the pool iswhat you%26#39;re going to do, go with MGM.

    MGM, Mriage, Flamingo ?????????

Honestly, you%26#39;ll be fine at any of these properties. That looks like a pretty decent rate for MGM, why not give them a try.

For your needs, which are not extravagant, I would go with Flamingo. They might upgrade you to a GO room, and for the pool and location along with the price, I think it%26#39;s the best value for your needs.

All 3 hotels have very nicely rated pools.

If you have a car, exact location will be no problem.

I%26#39;d also go with the MGM for the price. Book direct and keep your eyes open for promo codes on the forum or fatwallet.com that might reduce the price.

MGM is large and hallways are long. If that%26#39;s going to be a problem, keep that in mind.

Many gamblers believe in silly superstitions.... I say you spelled Mirage, ';Mriage'; because the price of the other 2 was cheaper...lol

I would recommend the MGM I recently stayed there and had a great time. Before you decide check out fat wallet, they offer all kinds of promo codes. You can probably find a better price than you already have. I stayed in February for 59.00/night and got a rate of 69.99/night in late August.

I%26#39;m a Mirage person, but will also tell you thta for the difference in price and since you will have a car, stay at MGM. Flamingo would be my third choice of the three properties you listed.

Thanks eveyone. I%26#39;m going with MGM. I%26#39;ll keep looking for any promos. I can%26#39;t wait.

we stayed at MGM and we had a car. i found the self-parking to be easy and plentiful and the valet parking was always quick. if you call ahead on your way to pick up your car, they will put you at the top of the list when you get there. the pools were nice and there was lots of shade when we were there. the hallways were long, but i honestly felt like it was more a trek to the room at the mirage. i%26#39;m staying at flamingo for the first time next month, so i can%26#39;t help you there.

Flamingo for the location and pool.

But the Mirage is also tempting.

I go with MGM and their pools.

    Table Game Lessons

Does anybody know if any of the casinos have lessons for table games for beginners.

I would like to at least understand why I have lost all my money !

    Thanks

    Table Game Lessons

Yes, most of the casinos have beginner lessons for BJ, craps and roulette. These are generally held in the morning when it is less crowded. You should ask someone in the casino about the details for their lessons.

    Table Game Lessons

What games do you want to play .?

There are a lot of internet sites with free game and ';coaching '; facilities which will tell you if you are making mistakes.

wizardofodds.com is one that springs to mind, but ther are countless others.

For blackjack the important rule is to play basic strategy properly.

You can downoad a card on the above mentioned site or buy one in the hotel gift shop.

I am sure other posters will give you links to other sites.

Once you have practised enough to know what to do in 90% of cases other players or dealer will help you out.

Put table etiquette in the search box (top left) for guidelines regarding buying in,tipping, restroom breaks etc..

    Practice before you go.

Firsttimer, thanks for that link, it%26#39;s really good. I%26#39;ve only played BJ a few times in the UK and don%26#39;t think I would have the confidence to play it in Vegas, I might give it a go now!

Approach a suitable table in your house.

Throw a hundred Euros or convenient cash amount on the table.

Stand there and drink a beer while someone blows cigarette smoke on you.

Your wife takes the money and you never see it again.

    Thats a close approximation.

All the casinos do. Just take a walk thru out the casinos during the early part of theday. They have signs on the table telling you the times to show up.

    Good Luck

RUSure - I am staying at the Luxor, but being a first timer I intend to wander up and down the strip and go into as many as possible. I realise that this covers quite a distance but over a few days I hope to manage to get to a number of different casinos.

I may as well spread my money around to as many casinos as possible !

Firsttimer123 - Thanks for the link, I will have a look at this.

    Thanks all for your advice

    Burgel,

When I stayed at the Venetian, they gave a craps lesson in the morning. About 7 of us watched as the instructor showed us how to play the game.

Ask at the Luxor, and I%26#39;m sure they can tell you where to go for lessons.

The Monte Carlo has crap lessons in the mornings. Go to their website or send them an e-mail and someone can tell you what time and what games they teach.

under 18 years old in las vagas

hello, can any one tell me, is there a curfew for under 18 years old,

i have been told that kids under 18 have to be back in there hotel

    by 11pm

    is this true??

under 18 years old in las vagas

I believe if they are with a parent there isn%26#39;t a problem.

under 18 years old in las vagas

No under 18s after 10pm Sunday thru Thursday and after midnight Friday %26amp; Saturday unless accompanied by an adult.

    There is definitely NO curfew

There isn%26#39;t a curfew but it probably isn%26#39;t a bad idea.

At the risk of this turning into another ';Lewis Thread';, you do know that you can%26#39;t drink alcohol, gamble, watch others gamble or go to bars or clubs don%26#39;t you?

I see you%26#39;re from Leeds and I%26#39;m assuming (perhaps wrongly) that you mean Leeds England where drinking is allowed aged 18+, whereas in Vegas its 21. Just wondering, that%26#39;s all.

There is absolutely a curfew. It doesn%26#39;t apply if you are with a parent/guardian.

There definitely is a curfew for children under the age of 18 who are not with an adult.

    Bellagio suite questions

I%26#39;ll be visiting Vegas this Aug to get married and will be spending 4 nights in the Bellagio Suite and would like to get a lakeview room which I know they charge extra for, but was wondering how I should go about asking for the upgraded view for free. Should I call them ahead of time and just ask or wait until check-in and hope one is available? For people that have asked for the lakeview room, what are the odds of getting one without having to pay extra?

I%26#39;ve also read some prior posts about staying in the Bellagio suites and noticed people mentioning that they received ';jump the line'; passes, did you have to ask for those or do they automatically give them to you at check-in?

    Thanks

    Bellagio suite questions

Since upgrades are based on availability more than anything your chances of getting upgraded to a view suite aren%26#39;t that good since there are less suites than there are standard rooms and therefore way less view suites. If you really want a Bellagio suite with a view you need to reserve it, they tend to sell out quickly.

    Bellagio suite questions

swales: all suites get a line pass. 100% way to get an upgrade: pay for it. If the hotel is slow, which is rare, they might upgrade you. Ditto for your wedding. 4 nites is alot, especially if there is a weekend involved. Pay for it. It%26#39;s worth it to see the fountains and your soon to be wife will also love them. Congratulations.

I have a Bellagio Suite reserved, and when I called back a couple weeks later, they stated the only views available for my time period were partial views (ie from the new tower) and it would be $50 a night. I actually called back another time to request a specific tower, and was again told that a view would be $50 extra. So, 2 people on the phone were obviously not going to be upgrading me for free. I plan on getting there in the morning to try and check in, hopefully finding a friendly desk clerk, and just politely asking if a complimentary upgrade is available. To me, it%26#39;s not worth $50 a night for a lake view, but I%26#39;ll take one if it%26#39;s free!

You mean the front of the line passes for Light at Bellagio? I believe when we went on a Thursday they were handing them out for free all over the hotel. Fri/Sat might be different, but I am sure if you are a guest they could get you some for free.

We%26#39;re going for our anniversary, and used the promo code which was only applicable to the last two nights we are staying. We were automatically upgraded to lakeview for those two nights. However, I had to pay the $50 for the lakeview for the first night (and also to ensure that we get to remain in the same room for all 3 nights.) Paying the $50 seems to be the only way to guarantee it.

    Congrats on your upcoming marriage!

Line passes for buffet and cafe Bellagio are given to all guests in suites.

I was told that the free upgrade using the promo code did not apply to the suites. And it was also closed a week after the promo began due to so many people requesting the free upgrade (so I was told on the phone).

Thanks for all the answers and well wishes on my wedding.

I guess I%26#39;ll give them a call and see what they say, and if I don%26#39;t get one for free I%26#39;ll spend the extra for one.

We also booked a Bellagio Suite for 3 nights in July. We aren%26#39;t prepared to pay for the upgrade, and when we asked about the Lakeview, they ONLY offered Partial views too. I would never pay $50/night for a partial view.

We stayed in a suite last summer, Sun-Thurs, and we couldn%26#39;t get a lakeview (for free!). The pool/mountain view is nice too though. The lakeview suites were ';all booked';, and this was at 4:00 in the afternoon. We too thought that maybe be checking in earlier, we might have a chance for a lakeview, but I somehow don%26#39;t think that will happen. I would prefer a suite in the main tower, than a partial view suite in the spa tower IMO.

We had to ask for the VIP line passes, which we used (and loved!). I don%26#39;t know if the guy at the desk would have offered us one without asking. So be sure to ask!
