Freemont Street .... Steak / Prime Rib Restaurant ???

Off to Freemont Street this evening.

Can anyone recommend a decent restaurant to try.

(Unfortunately, can%26#39;t get into our first choice %26#39;Hugo%26#39;s.)

Many thanks.

Freemont Street .... Steak / Prime Rib Restaurant ???

Binion%26#39;s Ranch Steakhouse or the Steakhouse at the California are both excellent choices. If you go to the Cal, make sure you ask for the $19.99 Porterhouse special NOT on the menu.

Have fun.

Freemont Street .... Steak / Prime Rib Restaurant ???

Binions Ranch Steakhouse FOR SURE!!!!

Enjoy!!!!!!!!

I%26#39;m guessing you mean Fremont Street. The Pullman Grille at the Main Street Station is very good. View is not as nice as if you have a window table at Binion%26#39;s, but the food is better.

Can any body give me a link to a site that wil explain American betting terminology to me.I keep hearing parlay spread etc. and while we

probably have similar bets here just wanted to get the lingo straight .

Here we have a yankee,a heinz,3xdoubles and a trip, and other terms that may be foreign to you.

Maybe this will help;

Other parts of the same site have ';lingo'; for other types of betting as well as sports

Do not nomally bother with sportsbooks, but have my wife booked into Bellagio spa for a full day ,so will hit the tables (low limits )and the sportsbook for the day.

New Show Announced at Golden Nugget

Looks like Simply Ballroom, which is closing is being replaced with ';Defending the Caveman'; a one man comedy about the ';battle of the sexes';. It has played here in Ft. Lauderdale numerous times and is said to be funny though we have never gone. All people booking summer stays through Golden Nugget%26#39;s Private Arrangements program ( you don%26#39;t have to gamble , just sign up to earn points for your stays and earn free nights) will get 2/1 tickets to see it( I%26#39;m sure to help bolster the crowd). There are some other perks offered as well , such as $25 in F%26amp;B credits and double points for some dates. Rates are $69 Monday-Thursday all summer except a few blackout dates.

Don%26#39;t know how Defending the Caveman will do- obviously geared toward GN%26#39;s older, long married demographic and the staging expenses for a one man show with little scenery probably are minimal. Haven%26#39;t got any info about ticket prices in the mailing we got.

We saw it years ago and enjoyed the thought is that men never progressed past being cavemen, sorry Gieco dude.

  • First visit to Vegas, few questions...

We just booked our trip to Vegas in August and had a couple questions...

Texas Hold%26#39;em tables, do they offer this at most casino%26#39;s?

We%26#39;re staying at the Tropicana. If so, do they get pretty busy and have waiting lists? Do they offer smaller blind tables like $2-5, limit?

We%26#39;re not high rollers and just want to enjoy a few hours of texas hold%26#39;em and not go overboard.

Also, my g/f wants to do one night at a club with music/DJ etc...

which club is best that is fairly decent price?

Do they have expensive cover charges?

First visit to Vegas, few questions...

Most casions, including the Trop, have poker rooms dealing Texas HE. All have waiting lists. The Trop%26#39;s room is one of the least crowded, you are unlikely to have to wait long if at all. They have low limit tables.

First visit to Vegas, few questions...

You%26#39;re doing great for researching your trip here, but once you get to Vegas- you%26#39;re gonna be OFF! You%26#39;ll jump place to place, see tables you%26#39;ll like, get a ';vibe'; from places you want to go, and you will learn as you go. Nightclubs (with dancing and all) have hefty covers unless you find someone with passes (they%26#39;re all over Vegas, just keep your eyes open). Depending on what you two are into, they have it! Read some reviews and take notes, and when you get to Vegas, go with what feels right! Have fun!

Cover Charges vary per club anywhere from free to $50 or better depending what you looking for.

Here%26#39;s a website that has tons of info on all Vegas clubs including VIP table reservation vegas.napkinnights.com

A good option for you is possibly Studio 54 in MGM. I love this place. It is a typical Vegas night club - great music a little extra here and there. Certain nights ladies are free but cover is $10/ ladies $20 men. It is always a great time and we always hit this place up everytime. We are in our late 20%26#39;s early 30%26#39;s

As mentioned, not all casinos have poker rooms. Unfortunately, poker is very popular right now and no matter where you go, there will probably be a wait, unless you perhaps go early in the morning.

www.allvegaspoker.com has more information than you need on tables, games and tournaments being offered in the Las Vegas poker rooms.

Excalibur has a nice poker room and last time I was there they had 1-3 limit texas hold%26#39;em there. I loved that table. A lot of new people that don%26#39;t know every much or how to play at the table, made a lot of money :) They also had a $100 buy in no-limit table there. Good Luck!

Your best resource is a company called 202 Concierge. They specialize in all things ';Sin City';, including night life. Toby was an afficianado on club culture, and got us into 3 clubs, with no long line, or paying 40.00 per person at the door. On line services are pricey, and most don%26#39;t deliver. These guys got us in , and guided us in smoothly. Their # is (702) 604-4596, or email them at spike@202concierge.com . Have a great time!!

At the trop try to upgrade to a tower if you have not already done so.

    Ocean's 13 premiere @ the Palms

Planned a trip with the BF for June 6-11. I wanted to stay at the Palms- so we%26#39;re taking advantage of their midweek rates of $99 for our first 2 nights. I was getting a bit worried that we%26#39;d tire of the Palms after a day- that is, until i read this:

    %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;a special benefit screening of Ocean鈥檚 Thirteen will open this year鈥檚 CineVegas Film Festival on June 6 at the Brenden Theatres in the Palms Casino\Hotel. During the opening night festivities鈥攄ubbed Lights, Camera, Take Action鈥擩erry Weintraub will also be honored with the CineVegas Vanguard Producer Award. Benefiting the aid group the International Rescue Committee for Not On Our Watch, the star-studded event will be attended by Ocean鈥檚 Thirteen cast members, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Ellen Barkin and Andy Garcia; producer Jerry Weintraub; and other celebrity guests.%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

woweee... how excited am I? The place should be buzzing!

    Ocean's 13 premiere @ the Palms

    I hate you.

    Ocean's 13 premiere @ the Palms

YES and my wife hates you too ,lucky sod..enjoy and win big.

    aww... show some love! I%26#39;m a Vegas Virgin- we%26#39;ll chalk it up to ';beginner%26#39;s luck';

would you mind asking George if he could stick around for a few days til I get in town on the 8th? thanks!

You better have a camera attached to you - cause I want to see pictures!

    Oh, I hate you too!!

You lucky lucky lady. Make sure you write a TR when you get back to let us know who you saw.

Hope you have a fab trip :-)

Lucky. The Palms do have some good mid-week rates.

......hopefully......Oceans 13 will be the ';lucky 13'; because Oceans 12 was REALLY BAD!

Well that%26#39;s excitting!!! I too will be in town then. Oh my God Brad Pitt and George Clooney in person? I think that%26#39;s great! Any idea what time they%26#39;d be arriving to you know go to the Palms and have a look see, maybe take a few pics!!!

Aw, thats the day I leave! Guess I will have to stalk the Palms the night before and see if there is any action :)

  • Yet more nightclub questions :)

Need some info on bottle service....do I have to call to find out prices or are the listed online somewhere?

    Interested in:

    Jet- Monday

    Studio 54- Tuesday

    Body English- Wednesday

Anyone have any info about bottle service at the above clubs???

    THANKS :)

    Yet more nightclub questions :)

I think 54 is around $500 for two bottles and a table, but I%26#39;m not sure about the other two.

    Yet more nightclub questions :)

I would call. Always better to get it from the club. You can also ask about availability.

The typical cost for bottle service is $300-500 for the table plus the cost of the bottle(s). They usually allow 3-4 people per bottle.

    Flamingo Royal Suite

    Hey All,

A Flamingo Royal Suite comes with our wedding package. Does anyone have a review or any pictures of this room? Our wedding coordinator is not much help. TIA!

    Flamingo Royal Suite

    Bump...

    Flamingo Royal Suite

My in-laws had a wedding package at the Flamingo, but they weren%26#39;t given a suite, just a regular room. Sorry I%26#39;m not much help!

Yeah, I have never heard of the Royal Suite. Is your wedding a BIG event with lots of people booking rooms and the ceremony held right at Flamingo? If so, maybe they really do have a large, special suite they are comping you for your huge expense. If not, I am wondering if it is just a room.

Last year we looked in to getting married at the Flamingo (we went with the Venetian), they used to have the 360 view (which I didn%26#39;t see the link on their sute). From what I remember it was a 1 bed room suite with a seperate sitting area with a big screen TV, bar area.... I remember it had blue chairs or sofa, but it was like the size of 1 bed room apartment...... hope that helps... call them and see if they have a link or they can mail you a brochoure.

I have never seen it, but somewhere in my earlier reading, I think I came across the fact that ther are only a handful ( maybe 2)on each floor , so they must be something above the norm. I%26#39;m also not sure but think they may be a fairly new offering there- and I think it depends which wedding package you book ( they have about 8 different levels) whether it%26#39;s included in your stay. Still, your coordinator should be more helpful in answering your questions- hold her feet to the fire and let her know we are all waiting to hear that you have been e-mailed a picture. She%26#39;s not doing her job...

Did a quick Google and read this:

    ';Floors 17-26 have a total of 54 renovated rooms per floor - 48 standard rooms, 4 mini suites and 2 Royal Suites. Floors 27 and 28 hold a total of 48 rooms per floor- 40 standard rooms, 4 mini suites, 2 Royal Suites and 2 Classic suites.';

There was also a website w/ pix from someone%26#39;s wedding party in a Royal Suite but they really didn%26#39;t show the room very well. It did look like it was pretty large though.

Worst experiences and how to avoid them.

As the question asks, this will be good for newbies, personally i have not had any in Vegas

Worst experiences and how to avoid them.

Blisters!!! I cannot say enough about wearing not just comfortable shoes, but broken in comfortable shoes. I wore some flip flops one time that I didn%26#39;t really have a problem with at home. Well at home I don%26#39;t walk as much as I did in Vegas. I got a huge blister and had to fix it and suffer for an entire day.

Worst experiences and how to avoid them.

Losing far more than you planned. How to avoid it? Set a limit and keep the rest in a safe.

Don%26#39;t EVER use your Credit Cards for a cash advantage.

Never take a ';girl'; with a deep voice back to your room.

Getting way too drunk early in the day and going back to room for a nap only to wake up at midnight and realize that you slept a whole day and evening away. This however just led to going out for an all nighter which was fun.

I am going to Vegas June 15 and plan on going shoe shopping this weekend to find shoes that I can walk in all weekend for the next 6 weeks so my feet dont hurt when I am there. I will also bring my sneakers that are worn but VERY comfy! And for anyone going in the summer months.. bring lotion and load your skin up with it all the time. Your skin will get so dry out there!

Don%26#39;t forget to apply twice the sunblock you normally need and limit you time exposed to direct sunlight in the middle of the day. It is very, very easy to get sunburned in Vegas.

    1) Stay away from the horrid (Smoking ban post).

    2) Know when to stop drinking, A hang over isn%26#39;t fun on vacation, neither is puking in the Plaza.

    3) Don%26#39;t do a time share presentaion, unless you actually have an interest.... don%26#39;t waste precious our of vacation at a high pressure, boring time share. (I%26#39;ve never done this.. my sister did, she was MAD)

    4) Take breaks from walking in the heat, your feet and lags will thank you.

Worst experience to start and end a trip...a shuttle to or from the airport. Never, ever, for any reason, take a shuttle to or from the airport

    Take a cab.

The overpriced monorail rides, with the long walks to and from the stations, definitely not worth it, easier to walk up and down the strip

Going to Vegas on a weekend...bad idea on so many levels it would be hard to list them all

    Stay Sun-Thur nights only

Worst experience? Coming back to this board to read about Vegas and finding it has been infected by Operator7.

Call your credit card company and let them know the dates you will be in Vegas.

My wife and I have had charges refused even though neither one of us were near our credit limits (same bank). We were told that Vegas is the #1 place for credit card fraud and that they sometimes refuse charges and until they confirm the cardholder is actually in Vegas and making the charges.

GDive -- wow, this is a great tip -- we typically notify our credit card companies when we travel abroad, but would not have thought to do so before going to Las Vegas -- I put this on my ';to do'; list!

  • Trip Report April 26th - May 6th

5th trip to Vegas and was very excited - haven%26#39;t been since June 2005!

Flew BMI from Manchester - Vegas - flight uneventful apart from a heap of stag do%26#39;s on board.

Got to Vegas airport and found that all of the car hire companies had moved to one centre. Got the bus there and got our car with Alamo. Actually got to choose the car and this was hard for me - terrible with making decisions anyway - let alone when I%26#39;m tired. Anyway, managed to get a Chevrolet HHR (?) which is like a Chrysler Cruiser (?). Picked this one due to the boot space.

First night we were at Paris Hotel - nice room, comfy bed. Went to Cheesecake Factory for first dinner (love the Cheesecakes!) Bit of gambling on Jackpot Party and my new friend - SUPER jackpot party!

Off the next morning to the Grand Canyon staying at Maswik Lodge. Stopped in a few places en route. Had two nights there and caught the sunset and sunrise.

On the way back we drove along part of Route 66 which was quite interesting.

Checked into MGM Grand for 5 nights and no king rooms in Grand Tower so was switched to West Wing (odd bathroom - see review).

Spent the next few nights pounding the strip (and killing my feet). Went to Primm outlets, Vegas outlets, Rio (Great buffet and scottish bar with Cider!), had a go in the lazy river at MGM pool area, Nine Fine Irishmen in NYNY, got a Paris Globe filled with Strawberry daquiri, back to the Cheesecake Factory. The funniest thing we did was to watch a pre-pilot of a new tv show at CBS, MGM Grand. The programme was so bad it was hilarious. Got a $10 voucher for gift shop, $3 starbucks voucher, monorail ticket, buy one get one free at Haagen Dazs so worth an hour of our time. Can%26#39;t remember what else we did but had a great time!

Then went downtown to Golden Nugget for last two nights of our stay - this was interesting! We had only been downtown on a couple of nights out on previous visits but it was so different going there during day - people pissed up at 9 in morning on 1/2 yards from La Bayou!

Had a good time downtown although the weather was a little cooler when we were there. Probably wouldn%26#39;t stay downtown again but would definitely go back for a couple of nights out (especially as I found my favourite drink - CIDER - very sad! at an irish bar and a liquor store)

Can%26#39;t wait to go back - probably won%26#39;t be till 2009 (boo hoo!)

    Trip Report April 26th - May 6th

Heap of stag do%26#39;s? Boot space? People pissed up at 9?

I just love the lingo. :)

    Trip Report April 26th - May 6th

Cheers Pearlbob!!! Hope you got the gist of what I was trying to say?? I always forget about American/English saying being different.

For people who may not understand I meant bachelor parties, trunk space and drunk people!

I thought boot space referred to footroom in the car. And worse - I thought heap of stag do%26#39;s referred to old ladies on the plane with big, old style hairdo%26#39;s. Ha! :)

    Definately loved the lingo, too!

Sounds like you had a very good time. So sorry you have to wait until 2009 to come back!!!!!

Great report but I am sad that you have to wait until 2009 to go again. Loved the lingo, but I thought boot room was leg room!!!

Should I ugrade my room at the Venetian?

I am heading to Vegas for a much needed vacation, and got an awesome rate ($179 per night) for a standard suite at the Venetian. I have never been to Vegas. Since the prices are pretty low for the weekend I will be going, is it worth it to upgrade to a newly renovated suite or to the Venezia tower? I am also debating if I should book the Canyon Rach Package. Has anyone ever gotten that? I think it includes 2 fitness club passes per day, $100 spa credit per day and lunch at canyon Ranch.

Should I ugrade my room at the Venetian?

That%26#39;s a good rate for a venetian suite. Personally, I really liked the Venezia tower, and I%26#39;m also very intrigued by the rates for the newly renovated rooms. If you could get a resonable price for an upgrade (probably cheaper to check before you leave) I would consider if. The rooms would be newer and fresher than the original rooms. Either way, you%26#39;ll love the Venetian - it%26#39;s a cool hotel.

Can%26#39;t speak to Canyon Ranch. I got a credit for their spa ($25 I think?) last November but when I checked their rates I decided I was better off not using it. Canyon Ranch is just too steep for my blood. I%26#39;d rather enjoy 3 massages for the same price from my local massage therapist instead.

Should I ugrade my room at the Venetian?

I wonder if the Venetian still has that strong perfumy de-odorizer smell in the casino, like it did last year. Mom %26amp; I walked in, and our eyes just burned. Normally, I%26#39;m not allergic to anything like that, but once I found it hard to breathe, we left. I was so disappointed, because we love going to the Venetian. I hope the hotel rooms aren%26#39;t like that as well. It%26#39;s such a beautiful place!

citygirl4616: Hi neighbor. I got the $179 rate for the Venezia Tower. It is on their website now.

    Doing the happy dance!

I just got us booked for 4 nights starting Sept 3. Mirage came out with a new package via e-mail. I thought about the Bellagio summer rate but this was too good to pass up. This offer had no promo code, it%26#39;s a Casino Marketing offer.........$59 a night, the extra $90 a night we%26#39;ll have by doing this offer vs the Bellagio one will buy a couple of nice meals out or more gambling. ;)

    Doing the happy dance!

    good deal Gabby!

    Doing the happy dance!

Good deal Gabby, you arrive the day before us,so you will have the strip warmed up for us.Glad you got a deal on your second favourite hotel in Vegas, lol lol .Enjoy, and you are are now the official co-ordinator of that weeks M%26amp;G

I will try to leave something there for you in August. Is anyone going in March?

Gabby I hope your husband is not a sports journalist, otherwise he will spend the entire M%26amp;G discussing Jose Mourhninos future ,The West Ham scandal, the rugby world cup ,and other such serious topics.............as I hijack him for the afternoon........lol lol lol

Wow! $59 a night....Nice score there miss legs!

That is a great deal gabby! Have a great time. Good time to go too, not as crowded.

firsttimer, I%26#39;m not going to tell him about the sports bit!! I%26#39;d never get him out of the M%26amp;G or to the places I want to go for dinner while we are there........no sports, got it?? ;) Btw, he%26#39;s true blue Hotspurs guy!

We are also going to go in December.....will either split that trip between 2 hotels or just dump the Mirage that time. We are going to be trying out GVR that time around. We%26#39;ll just be going to Vegas that time around, I%26#39;ll be doing California on my own in November.

Way to go, girl!! Glad things are all settled! Fantastic rate at a fantastic hotel. Heck, you can visit the Bellagio to say hello to it!!

Yes and if they stop you going in to the B you can say we are meeting a guest and his wife in the fontana lounge .........lol lol lol

I think they will gladly let me in the door there, remember it%26#39;s not even been two years since I last stayed there.and I will have money with me! I might have gone for the $149 deal firsttimer if it weren%26#39;t for the fact we are going back in Dec, with a trip to Cyprus and one to Calif thrown in between the two Vegas trips. ;)

  • Bottle Service?

I%26#39;m almost embarassed to ask. I%26#39;ve never heard of bottle service until I started planning my trip to Vegas, so I have a question that will probably sound silly.

I think I may reserve a table at Pure with bottle service. The price is quite expensive, so I am wandering if the initial price we have to pay for the table includes the first bottle of liquor. Or do you have to pay the $300 plus dollars for a table and then another $300 for a bottle?

    Bottle Service?

At Pure, that $300 is for the table and your first bottle. If you are planning on having a second and/or third or fourth.

    Bottle Service?

You don%26#39;t pay anything whatsoever for the table. If you%26#39;re having bottle service the table reservation comes completely complimentary.

I have a bottle service question too.......

Does the price include mixers or do you pay for them ?

    Thanks

    Mixers are also complimentary.

Basically if you reserve bottle service, you get to skip the line, get in ';free'; (you don%26#39;t pay at the door), they lead you to your reserved table, you get one bottle of ___, and a couple mixers to go with it (your choice). You should have a waitress that comes over often to check on you, and you can keep the table all night without worrying someone will take it. More bottles of liquor will mean more money.

I think that usually bottle service is for 4 people max. If you have more than 4 people, you have to pay more than that $300. You can%26#39;t just have 30 people pitch in $10 to have a table in other words.

Pure is a headache to get into...I%26#39;ve seen the line at 9pm have about 200 people in it, before the club even opens (I think 10pm). So if you can get bottle service, I think that%26#39;s the only way to go at Pure.

Try getting a table without paying for bottle service.

Anyone renting a car on Memorial day week?

Priceline accepted my offer of $12 per day.

    May 28 - June 1

    Avis

Anyone renting a car on Memorial day week?

Is that for the trunk? Or the whole car? How much will it be after all the taxes and fess are added on?

Anyone renting a car on Memorial day week?

    fees

    It%26#39;s a compact.

It was a few bucks over 100 dollars for the five days.

I actually work for Avis-Budget-Group in their pricing department and yea thats a great price on a compact for that week. It%26#39;s because you booked it off pricieline I%26#39;m actually renting a convertible for the day and driving out to Valley of Fire and the Hoover Dam and its costing me a decent amount even with my discount. Don%26#39;t forget to add in the fees and any additional insurances you may need to purchase at the counter.

Thanks DavidBrent! We will be there during the same dates and are considering a car. For $12/day that%26#39;s a no brainer! Now I%26#39;m off to Priceline!

My offer was declined, but I%26#39;ll try again before I leave. I booked a c-car with Dollar for $15/day direct, so if priceline doens%26#39;t work out, I%26#39;m still okay with that price. Thanks again DavidB!

  • Where to go on vacation in May?

    Hello!

I would appreciate any suggestions! My husband and I were planning to go to a friend%26#39;s wedding to Cabo San Lucas the last weekend of May . Unfortunately he will not receive his passport on time and we%26#39;ve been forced to go Plan B.... We%26#39;ve been thinking about Lake Tahoe, although we are not sure on what to do up there. We are still open to any other suggestion since we just started to work on our Plan B!! Please help!

Where to go on vacation in May?

    Dollar Rental Car Promo Code?

Does anyone have a Promo Code for Dollar Car Rental? Thanks!

    Dollar Rental Car Promo Code?

    Hi,

I just reserved a car through Dollar yesterday and when I put in the information a special automatically popped up. I had been looking for promo codes as well and wasn%26#39;t able to find any - maybe someone else may have one. But I did end up getting a car for a week for $100.00 plus all of their fees of course! I compared all of the large car rental companies and Dollar did come out cheaper even with an Alamo $20.00 off coupon.

Good luck and have a great trip!

    mbac

    Dollar Rental Car Promo Code?

I don%26#39;t have a promo code for Dollar, but when I was reserving my car yesterday I noticed that underneath the yellow ';box'; with the price quote there is a red ';tab'; stating that they are running a special for Vegas. Click on the tab and the price goes down a bit...

    Coolers at Mandalay Pools?

My return stay to Mandalay Bay is set for May 28th and my boyfriend and I cannot wait! Quick question that I wasn%26#39;t sure of - are you allowed to bring small coolers into the pool area with beverages. If show are alcoholic beverages allowed too? Also, I was wondering if anyone whose been to the topless pool area could give a quick review of what its like. Would like to try it out.

    Coolers at Mandalay Pools?

You should be fine with a small discreet cooler but make sure that there%26#39;s no glass involved anywhere along the way.

People have posted on here in the past about hauling huge amounts of their own drinks poolside and getting away with it, but personally I wouldn%26#39;t take too many libeties.

    Coolers at Mandalay Pools?

Sorry liberties. Some people on here just don%26#39;t know how to spell.....:-)

A lot of jiggly chests. Some of them were on women.

I%26#39;ve never seen coolers at any of the pool areas I%26#39;ve been to in Vegas.

photos of Bellagio new tower rooms?

Does anyone have any actual photos of the rooms in the new tower at the Bellagio? (I think it%26#39;s the Spa that is new?) I%26#39;ve seen a zillion pics of the old rooms, but just wondering what the new rooms look like inside. The ';sketches'; that Bellagio puts out aren%26#39;t that informational.

Just let me know if anyone does, or could point me in the right direction online. I%26#39;ve looked through about 500 photos now and could only find a couple dark ones that might be in the new tower.

    Thanks!

If you%26#39;re talking about the Spa Tower here is a link to a short review and a couple of pix. Hope this helps.

photos of Bellagio new tower rooms?

The %26#39;old%26#39; rooms were redone when the spa tower opened.

I just went and looked at those Spa Tower room pictures. The room furnishings were identical to those in the room we had in the %26#39;old%26#39; towers. The only difference I saw was in the bathroom, same type vanity except 2 sinks instead of one.

Why is it that so many people have stated on here that the new tower is a lot better? Maybe not all of the rooms were redone in the old tower?

Don%26#39;t you have the reservation for a suite? As I said before, the suites in Spa Tower is supposed to be new while the ones in old tower are not. They didn%26#39;t refurbish the suites when they did the standard rooms.

Got an e-mail back from guest services when I enquired about room renovations and possible effect on guests Below is their reply

Thank you for your email and concern. The remodel we have planned for this year is our Suite remodel in our Main Bellagio tower. At this time we do not project that our Deluxe Rooms will be affected.

We look forward to welcoming you to Bellagio. Please feel free to contact us if you need any further assistance.

    Sincerely,

    Sarah Ashmore

    Guest Relations Assistant

wow thanks for everyone%26#39;s responses. I do have a suite, so I think I%26#39;ll stick with the Spa tower since the main tower renovation will probably not be done by July. Just in case. Compared to the newer rooms, the old rooms at Bellagio, while nice, are more...old nice, not contemporary nice. :)

  • Lost money when cancel room booking--non US credit card

I recently canceled my room booking with Paris and went for the MGM Grand $89 promo. The Paris refunded the 1 night deposit to my credit card without any penalty. However the credit card company credited me about $10 Canadian less because of the sell/buy exchange rate. I think if you are using a US$ credit card, there will be no lose if you cancel and rebook but for non US travelers, we will lost a bit because of the credit card company but not the hotel.

Lost money when cancel room booking--non US credit card

If the exchange rate had gone the other way you would have been up.Currency fluctuations are a gamble, unless you are Warren Buffet.

Lost money when cancel room booking--non US credit card

I guess that is what you get for booking with a Canadian Credit Card.

I experienced the same thing. I think I ended up losing $12 or something close to that amount, no big deal, but still slightly annoying. I figured that since it is a reund it should be the same rate you paid for it originally, but then I am no financial expert.

I have just cancelled our booking at the Paris, was paid for on my UK credit card exchange rates have moved in our favour since our original booking so will be interesting to see what is refunded when it comes through.

I%26#39;ve never been credited more money than I paid when returning something I bought or paid for in USD with my Canadian credit card. Somehow, the exchange rate, right at that minute, always benefits the credit card company, NEVER the client. Coincidence? I don%26#39;t think so.

I never had this problem using my Canadian CC and I%26#39;ve booked and canceled, changed, etc rooms frequently. My money has always been fully refunded.

Which CC?? I%26#39;ll stay away from it.

We booked our HM reservations (French Polynesia) directly through the hotel because we had an awesome rate that the packages couldn%26#39;t touch. Over the 6 months between booking and arriving, the US economy tanked (start of Iraq war) and we lost about 30% in the exchange rate. result, our already pricy honeymoon was 30% more expensive. That was a cruddy lesson to learn.

    Visa

Oh the hotels always refund the exact amount for the 1 night deposit, but the exchange rate is up and down all the time, so I seem to lose a few bucks CDN, depending when the hotel puts the credit through. That%26#39;s why I never book more than one room at a time, waiting for the best deal. I book the hotel I want with the deal I want.

Awww, LauraSue, I%26#39;m really sorry to hear that, that is a crappy deal! Hopefully you%26#39;ll win more than enough to cover the extra expense, if you do any gambling, that is!

With the dollar falling against the Euro we lost slightly on our two cancellations, but our holiday savings are getting better as we speak.

$1.28 when we started $1.36 now,so on 15,000 euro a nice little bonus.

I just scored a home run on my airfare.....

I booked my airfare with Southwest a month and a half ago for Las Vegas from Chicago leaving May 30th and returning June 2nd. Well I went online to check fares for a friend of mine for October and decided to see what fares were looking like for my same flights. Well lo and behold the return flight had dropped to $54 bucks before taxes and fees. I originally paid over $120 bucks each for my husband and myself for that leg of the flight, well needless to say I got a credit now for $140. Yaaay! Go Southwest. I am so happy. I wanted to hold out for cheaper fares, but my husband was scared they would only go up and that we would find the flight times we wanted. Well everything worked out in the end. I love to save a buck! I don%26#39;t know what%26#39;s going on around that time that the fare dropped that much, but when I looked further out they were back at the same rates as before.

I just scored a home run on my airfare.....

Congrats! That%26#39;s $140 more for your enjoyment in Vegas!

I just scored a home run on my airfare.....

So does that mean if you book flights through southwest %26amp; see the price drop later - they will lower it if you call them %26amp; give you a credit for the difference?? That would be fabulous!

yes, you don%26#39;t even need to call them. You can do it online. One more reason not to book package deals and to use either SWA or Jet Blue when you can.

    Good going Chitownmama.

    Ding!

hoping SW will hook me up with cheap rates out of Philly!

I did it online and in less than five minutes I had a $140 credit to use towards a future flight. ';I see a fall trip to Vegas in my future'; So hopefully I will recieve some offers when I return for some free or really discounted rooms to have an excuse to go back in the fall. ';smilin';.

that is a consumer friendly policy especially compared to USAIRWAYS as they charge a $100 charge for doing the same thing.

    kbell,

Yes, if you find that your flight has gone down, just go online to change your flight and put in the same date(s) and time(s) and it will adjust it for you and tell you how much credit you have. Simple as pie!

    nuzzja,

Even if the fare is lower they will still charge a $100? Well that just stinks!

nuzzja- tell me about it! I had a $100 voucher for USAirways, but then when i tried to use they told me that there is a $100 fee to apply credits.

gee- thanks for nothing! SW all the way.

chitownmama, Keep checking , I have changed my tickets on SW 3 times since booking them in March...for LV.... I have now saved a total of $318.00 on three tickets............ This morning the perfect flight 1st flight out in the morning and NS ,opened up at a lower rate for 05/23/07...which really surprised me since its less than 2 weeks aways SW is great can change as many times as you want as long as seats are open.....

Way to go.... on your savings

    Taking photos in Vegas

I%26#39;ve enjoyed looking at everyones pictures. My next trip is in July and I want to be able to have great pictures, too. So, a new camera is needed. Would like to get a simple point and shoot digital. Any recommendations? My old digital (an original) is too clunky to fit in my small handbag and my old film-in camera is too old fashioned! Time to get in the 21st century! LOL

    TIA

    Judi

    Taking photos in Vegas

I just purchased the Kodak EasyShare C743. I find it to be very easy to use and it didn%26#39;t cost an arm and a leg. It is very light and fits nicely in my Vegas Purse.

    Taking photos in Vegas

I also have a Kodak Easy Share - I believe its a C330. My favorite part is it has a nob to rotate for all different photo settings such as night time and action photos. It makes taking great pictures really easy!

Lots of good deals on Ebay. I got a 1 year old Olympus that was $550 new for under $100. A few scratches, but I probably would have dinged it up the first time I used it anyway.

I tried picking up my new Camera from the May 2007 Consumer reports, but everyone was sold out.

For $200 the Sony Cyber Shot DSC W-55, was rated very well for the price in the sub compact range. I got last years display model (The W-50) which didn%26#39;t exactly work too well...

The new one is 7MP with a decent zoom. See my posted pics thread for the zoom to Excalibur from MGM.

I second the Sony cybershot advice - I have one that takes great pix and I gave one to our daughter for Xmas - the new ones are great.

Buy an extra large memory stick or two also.

I like the short MPG movies they take as well.

I have the sony cyber shot 7mp version - fantastic camera but I have to resize all my photes to fit TAs guidelines which is a pain. My printed photos come out great though which is the most important %26amp; it%26#39;s very easy to use.

lol Gray, I accidently took a couple of movies while cussing out the camera.... they do come out well!

Had the 1MB stick.... will take several hundred pics at 7MB or twice as many at lower megs....

Sorry, that was the 1GB stick.

And thanks for the info on posting to TA. Good to know. I was going to post mine to the photo section today...

Here is a link to a WSJ article that ran this week with advice on purchasing a new digital camera:

    …wsj.com/article/SB117866381974196399.html…

I personally have a 7 MP Kodak Easy Share that I love. Very simple to use. I print my pictures on an HP Photo printer, which gives me great results.

    Thank you all for advice.

Lowrance, Your pictures are great, thanks for sharing.

    Stag Do in Vegas

    Hello

I%26#39;m the best man for a stag do in August and I want it to be one to remember! We are booked into the Wynn for 5 days.

Can someone give me some tips on what night clubs, gents clubs and other activities etc I should be looking to go to?

Any other tips on absolutely anything gratefully received.

    Thanks

    Stag Do in Vegas

Care to explain what a stag do is? I%26#39;m guessing you fellows plan on giving an elk or a deer a hair make-over. But then I might have it all wrong, you Brits type and talk funny.

    Stag Do in Vegas

It%26#39;s a bachelor party. Sorry, Robbo. Being a woman, I really can%26#39;t point you in the direction of what to do.

    Clubs :Pure @caesars,Tao,Studio 54.

A group of lads is going to find it hard to get into a club ,long lines.

One option is bottle service, not something you have in Britian .Basically you pay $200 and up for guaranteed entry and a bottle of whiskey ,vodka, rum etc.plus mixers. And you also get a table to sit at .Everybody without bottle service stands.A good way to meet ladies as they want to sit and drink for free(beware of moochers). The more people in your group the more $200+ bottles you HAVE to buy.Deal directly with club as you are guaranteed front of line entry(as long as you are sober, behaved and dressed to suit).

As to gentlemens clubs ,as a happily married man I have never been but spearmint rhino,is one that springs to mind but there are others, but be careful,.

Keep reading this forum ad you will get great info.

Great choice of hotel, pricey but classy and great pools to sleep the hangover off at.

I don%26#39;t know either, but you might find some info by putting ';Bachelor party'; or other key words in this message boards search engine located at top of message board.

Sorry, I could not help further

    Suz

we get a lot of questions on this so I asked one of the gorillas at cheetahs what they do for bachelor parties, basically he said they will send a limo and pick you up and drop off at no charge, I think he also said they would waive the cover. Also said they would reserve an area and stock it with girls. I would guess the other topless clubs would do the same type of deal. Stick with the topless clubs, the all nude are non alchohal and not very good.

I don%26#39;t think you will get a deal at any of the legit clubs such as Pure or Rain etc unless you hire one of the VIP limos, because the dance clubs want girls, not groups of guys.

Be warned, vegas topless clubs can be very draining on your wallet.

    for day time

go to gun store a shoot a tommie gun,

check out the cars at i.p.

there is also the .............. petty driving experience, I deiberately left out the christian name as I always say the singers name and not the drivers, someone here will know.

    2 words: Sherri%26#39;s Cabaret

    Elaborate oh wise one.

Sherri%26#39;s Cabaret: Fully Nude dancing and lap dancing, open 24 hours. Only downside is no alcohol cause it%26#39;s fully nude.

So get hammered before you go and stay there till you sober up.

    Stayed at IP

19th - Flew out of Rockford IL on Allegiant Air. Round trip airfare was 179. Great flight arriving on time.

Arrived in Vegas at 2 and took a cab to IP. Check in was very easy and we were in our room right away. Nice view over looking the pool and nice but small balcony.

4 of us (2 couples) decided to go to Harrah%26#39;s for the buffet. Awesome variety and we had 5 dollar off coupons. Definetly worth the money.

Walked over to Caesars Palace and showed other couple the forum shops (they have never been to Vegas before), then took a shuttle to RIO.

Boys went off to poker machine bar. Newbie was impressed that he could sit there and drink 10 beers while only losing 10 dollars in a machine. They are not big gamblers.

I sat down on a nickel ';snow globe'; machine and played 20 lines times 2. Only hit the button 3 times before I got the bonus which was free spins and on one spin I won 728.00!! Great way to start out the trip!!!

Took shuttle back to Harrah%26#39;s and went back to the room. Long day.........

    April 20th -

Woke up early and went back to Harrah%26#39;s for the breakfast buffet. I can%26#39;t say enough about this place. LOVE IT.

Walked around the strip and rode the rollercoaster at NYNY. Great time! Went to MGM and had a great chocolate martini at the West Wing bar. One martini is all I can handle. Walked back to IP from MGM and got ready for our big night out.

Had tickets (bought on E-bay) for Nite Tours Club crawl. We were to meet at Revolution at Mirage. If you have never been there, I highly recommend it. The place is really unique and it has a Beatles theme. There are tables that cost over 150,000 each and have computer programs in them that are interactive. Can%26#39;t really describe it, but worth checking out. Met up with our tour guide Gus was was wonderful. Our itinerary was to meet at Revolution, then go to Voodoo Lounge, then off to Light at Belagio and end up at Mandalay Bay HOuse of Blues for flashback 80%26#39;s night. We left Revolution at 930 and got in a huge limo. I must say that there were about 18 of us and the age range was from 21-57. We are all in our late 30%26#39;s, so we did not feel out of place. Voodoo Lounge was next, and it has the most unbeleivable view of the strip. Make sure you check it out. We split a Witch Doctor drink that was very potent but also very yummy. Highly recommend it! We left there at 1030 and went to Light at Belagio. Very cool Lounge, a little too much bass in the music and really catered to the youngins. Left there at 1230 and made our way to Mandalay Bay. Awesome 80%26#39;s band playing and the crowd was a lot of fun! Left there at 230 and the limo dropped us off at Mirage. We were beat and ready for bed!

I can%26#39;t say enough great things about this Club Crawl. I was a little scared about it being a yound kids thing, but it really wasn%26#39;t. Our tour guide Gus was sooo great!. We paid 45.00 off e-bay for this and it included free access to all the clubs, free champagne toast on the limo, free beer of the limo, and because we mention that this was our 5 year anniversary, we got free t-shirts and everyone in the limo signed for us. If anyone would like more info on this let me know....

Got back to Ip and decided we needed food. We went to the Teahouse and I was so disappointed. Ordered a hot panini vegetable sandwich we arrived cold. They took it back and I think nuked it, becasue when they brought it back I had to wait twenty minutes to eat it because it was wayyy to hot.

    April 21 -

We slept in as my husband got a little too drunk the night before and couldn%26#39;t move until 11. We went to Harrah%26#39;s (imagine that) and had the brunch buffet . Did a little gambling at Harrah%26#39;s and killed some time until the show. We went to Vinnie Favarito at OSheas. I totally recommend seeing his show. This is not a show for people who can%26#39;t handle swearing and being picked on. That%26#39;s all he does. I was laughing soooo hard that I was crying. He picked on my husband pretty bad and I thought he was the best comedian I have ever seen and I have to a lot of different shows.

After show we took the monorail to MGM and walked to Hooter%26#39;s to check out the place and have some chicken wings. Great food, but slow. We then cabbed it back to IP and gambled some more. I did okay, but nothing to brag about. We had to leave at 4am for our flight at 6 so I decided I was going to just stay up and gamble.

Flight left today and on time. Probalby the smoothest flight I have ever been on and I have flown a lot.

Can%26#39;t wait to go again. We are alreay planning it!!!

    TR April 19th-22nd

Can you please give more infor on The Club Crawl? what, where, price etc...

Here is the website for NIte Tours.

    http://www.nitetourslasvegas.com/

It%26#39;s normally 89 per person but Vegas4locals sells them on e-bay. I got two tickets for 45. The site will tell you whats all included. They just started using the limo bus instead of the trolley. Much nicer. Make sure that if you do go that you get Gus as your tour guide. It always incldes 4 clubs but could differ depending on whats going on that night. Gus will also make a stop at the Vegas sign so that you can take pictures. It runs from about 8pm-2am. Let me know if you have any specific questions that couldn%26#39;t be answered on their website. Have fun!

Myranda, what type of room did you have at IP and were you satisfied ';for the money';. clean, etc.

Glad you had a good time, the pub crawl sound awesome.

    vegascats,

We got a ';delux'; room. That just means it was redecorated. I ask for a room not too far from elevators and they accomodated me. Room was clean and it was comped. I like having the little balcony as my husband doesn%26#39;t smoke and I can go out there instead of stinking up the room. I know many have complained about the low water pressure, but I didn%26#39;t experience that. They also complain about the elevators, but if you go around the corner from the main ones, there are two additional ones and they are really fast since not many people know about them. Housekeeping staff were very friendly and gave us anything extra we asked for.

    Myranda,

Thanks for the TR. We%26#39;ll be at IP tomorrow. Surpisingly enough I emailed and asked for a room kinda close to the elevator. They were kind enough so reply affirmatively and told me we%26#39;d have a room with a pool view. (Not yours, as our room ain%26#39;t the DE-Luxe model.) I%26#39;ve always enjoyed the IP- bringing a friend for the first time and I hope it doesn%26#39;t disappoint us!

    Nice TR.

Laughed at 10 beers for $10 in slot play!

    Nice win to start!

Nice review on the Club Crawl.

Gald you had fun in Vegas!

    dustystacks,

I think the IP is great. I just don%26#39;t care for their buffet or the Teahouse as I have not had good food at either place. This was our second time at IP and I would not hesitate to stay there again. Rooms are basic, but we didn%26#39;t spend much time in there anyway. I don%26#39;t really need any frills in a hotel room that I am not in much. BTW..... We asked for a fridge and they did bring one to our room free of charge......

Myranda great TR and it great to have a win and start of the trip! Any other wins for yourself or others? Where did you catch the shuttle for the Rio and how much did it cost? Did you go across to the PALMS? We often enjoy Harrah%26#39;s buffet as well. I like the idea of doing the pub crawl When you are at each bar do you all sit together as a group or just meet at a certain to go onto the next club? I will check out the link you posted. Sounds like you showed your friends a good time.

So are the beers free while you play?

  • Liquor Store Prices

Are the prices for bottled liquor the same at Vegas stores as most of US? I plan to stock up my room, but didn%26#39;t know if I should just fly in with a few bottles in my carry-on or pick them up in LV.

    Liquor Store Prices

We stopped at a grocery store in Vegas (don%26#39;t remember which one) and prices on their liquor seemed to be about the same. I broke a bottle of wine there. Glad it was only $3! :)

    Liquor Store Prices

Liquor and beer prices vary pretty widely across the USA. Are they cheaper than Utah? Yes. New Hampshire? No.

I think you%26#39;d have a hard time with bottles of liquor in your carry-on. Unless you%26#39;re going to carry a LOT of 3-oz. bottles!

Prices vary greatly here in Las Vegas, just like I%26#39;m sure that every store in your town does not charge the same price. You can get a better deal at Sam%26#39;s Club or Costco than you can get at the hotel gift shop. Of course the hotel gift shop is probably not going to have have anything bigger than a pint. Where as Costco doesn%26#39;t have anything smaller than a liter bottle.

If you%26#39;re staying at the Gold Coast or Orleans they have liquor stores with very competitive prices. You can catch the shuttle to these casinos from Bill%26#39;s if you want to do some bargain shopping. Or you can spend a few dollars more and buy something at your hotels gift shop.

Only you can decide what your vacation time is worth.

BeachJunkie: Just an example...a jug of Seagrams here in Washington costs about 26 bucks...at the Orleans or Gold Coast, the same bottle costs about 15.99.....plus tax, of course...naturally, you now cannot take these bottles in your carry-on...so, a ten minute shuttle from Bills to Gold Coast saves you and me from taking extra weight on our carry-ons.at a cheaper rate....In years past, I always included a jug of bourbon, but no more...especially when it is cheaper in Vegas...people always talk about not spending time in their room , but there is much to be said about relaxing with a drink watching a good basketball/football/baseball game....after walking miles and losing so much on the slots...have a great time....

    jungle, thank you.

I think I will take your advice. I agree sometime being able to have a relaxing hour in the room really rejunates! Also, I figured everytime we leave our room we can fill up a big mug or cup with a drink for the road...walking of course:)

I%26#39;m not sure where you%26#39;re staying but I found South Point Hotel%26#39;s gift shop very reasonable for liquor. You can also have a look at the ABC Stores in Desert Passage although I think they are higher priced.

I know people who drag their liquor in their checked luggage and it doesn%26#39;t break but if it did, what a big mess! Due to liquid restrictions, I do not think you can bring liquor packed in your carry-ons. I believe there is a 3 oz restriction.

    Clubs?

i have heard it is very difficult for men to get into the good clubs without paying an arm and a leg. is this true. we are 2 couples going and are worried about this.

    Clubs?

I have heard that that is for single guys in groups trying to get into clubs most of the time.

I don%26#39;t know for sure if this is true, but I think that since you are showing up in couples then you should be fine. Others might have insight too but I did not have trouble when I went as a couple.

    JayCronk

    Clubs?

All girl groups have the easiest time getting in, followed by couples, and a distant third is groups of guys. Typically, women get in free (or a lower cover charge) but the men WILL have to pay, regardless if you%26#39;re a couple or a group of single guys. You will likely have to wait in the looooong line to get in, as the VIP line is usually reserved for those w/bottle service or girl groups. However, you can call the club(s) ahead of time, explain your situation and see if they%26#39;d accommodate you for a guest list.

Your best resource is a company called 202 Concierge. They specialize in all things ';Sin City';, including night life. Toby was an afficianado on club culture, and got us into 3 clubs, with no long line, or paying 40.00 per person at the door. On line is pricey, and most don%26#39;t deliver. These guys got us in , and guided us in smoothly. Their # is (702) 604-4596, or email them at spike@202concierge.com . Have a great time!!

So, interesting Spike that the e-mail for this company seems to share your first name( about the fourth time you/ve popped onto TA to advertise your business , isn%26#39;t it now...?)

Best way to get a wedding dress to las vegas

    Hello,

I was wondering for those of you that might have gotten married in Vegas to help a soon to be married couple that wants to get married in vegas. What is the best way to get the ';dream'; wedding dress to vegas (and the safest), besides driving it across the country, lol.

Best way to get a wedding dress to las vegas

Carry it on and let them know what it is! Don%26#39;t check it!

Unless it%26#39;s one of those really big poofy dresses that%26#39;s going to take up a LOT of space...

(Did you see that episode of Airline with the checked Wedding dress that got tire tracks on it?)

Best way to get a wedding dress to las vegas

Yes, thats why I was wondering if we can carry it on the plane or not or any other ideas, lol.

I shipped mine, a few weeks before, (my bff%26#39;s parents live there), call ahead to the dry cleans or hotel (where ever you are having it pressed). I insured the heck out of it, but it got there safely. I used the UPS store, they took care of every thing.

Carry you gown on with you. If you ask the stewardess nicely sometimes, if there%26#39;s room they can hang it up in the front area of the plane where the pilot hangs their jackets. That%26#39;s what I did when I got married in Cuba. Then you don%26#39;t have to worry about it being wrecked in the overhead compartments!!! Usually everone is extra acomidating when they see they wedding gown bag so take advantage of it! Best of luck with the wedding.

I had to take my wedding dress to Cancun and these were the best options:

purchase first class tickets so dress can be put in coat closet (if you are sitting in coach and call before/ask once at the airport if you can hang it here they will tell you there is no guarantee as first class passengers have first dibs so to speak)

if sitting in coach purchase a seat just for the dress

You are allowed to carry it on. I would NEVER check my dress as luggage below.

The answer is obvious and takes a man to point it out to you..........WEAR IT ................lol lol lol

Check with your airline.. Frontier would not allow me to carry on my dress becasue it was too big to fit overhead or under the seat.

That%26#39;s why I recommend purchasing a seat just for the dress if it is a large/puffy one. What is another $400 (just guessing an average) or so for the piece of mind that it gets there unharmed.

$400 seems like a lot to me! Check with your airline first, I think I was taking SW and they said no space, sorry, for bringing it on carry-on style. I ended up packing it in my largest suticase, took it out right away and hung it up and it was just fine. It would be a lot cheaper to do that and have it steamed or whatever once you get there then buy a whole seat on a plane!

    bean,

I said after I wrote $400 that I was giving an average...I do not know what time of year she is going, from where exactly. It was not meant as an estimate for airfare but used to illustrate my point.

    Sorry if it wasn%26#39;t clear.

    YEAH!!! Robin Williams - 5/27/07 @ MGM

I am so excited!!! I just purchased tickets to see Robin Williams! He is only having one show and it is the day that we arrive to LV! :-)

    YEAH!!! Robin Williams - 5/27/07 @ MGM

    Congratulations!!!!!

    YEAH!!! Robin Williams - 5/27/07 @ MGM

    Nahnu Nahnu 4 U

(That%26#39;s for those of you old enough to remember Mork %26amp; Mindy)

Thanks for the heads up, when was the date announced. It wasn%26#39;t on the MGM site last week. Anyway, tickets bought another highlight of the trip.

love him!! congrats and enjoy the show

I considered purchasing a ticket to see him.....the price scared me.I viewed the seating and noticed I%26#39;d have to sit in the nosebleed section and decided not to purchase a ticket.

    Online coupons

Hey everyone. I found some online coupons for Madame Tussauds, the Roller Coaster at NYNY and B1G1 free for pretzels/hot dogs/sandwiches. Have anyone tried using them?

    Online coupons

    Where did you find them???

    Online coupons

I would also like to know where you found them.

    www.vegasresource.com/index.php?pr=Coupons

The vegasresource.com charges you for the coupons. Try www.vegas4locals.com/coupon5thavenue.html for the B1G1 ice-cream, hotdog, pretzel, snadwich. It%26#39;s free. Just print them out.

Having had only a relatively cursory look at the content of some of these packages, there are quite a lot on the lists that are also in the coupon books freely available in Vegas.

I don%26#39;t know of anyone who has paid to see IP%26#39;s Auto Collection for instance!

I am interested in the NYNY roller coaster. If anyone knows where I can get that one. TIA

To add to the above - Vegas Resource is run by Billhere and has been for many years. He used to list each coupon individually and you could make up your own packages for a small handling/postage charge.

I only used the service once and found as I say above, many of them were freely available, but he does supply what he says.

    and finally:-

    try this link

I am also just interested in the NYNY roller coaster coupon.

  • Tips, entrees, biscuits and more questions from an Aussie

    Hi all,

After reading this forum for quite some time now, I wonder if someone can explain to me the following:-

Tips - how much to tip for everything? We don%26#39;t tip here in Australia so this will be new to us

Entrees - OK, what do you consider to be an entree?? Here in Australia, an entree is the part of the meal that you have before the main course, so we are likely to have an entree, then main course, then dessert. I%26#39;m wondering if your entree is our main course???

Biscuits - quite a lot of menus have biscuits as part of the meal. What are biscuits???

Cheers from a cobber from downunder!

Tips, entrees, biscuits and more questions from an Aussie

Tips --- tip for everything from bell desk, to CW, to cab driver, toooo heck just hand everyone you see a dollar.

Entrees are the main course of our meal. We have Appitizers(sp?), Entrees and dessert.

Biscuits are like a dinner roll but normally made out of butter milk and a little lighter.

Tips, entrees, biscuits and more questions from an Aussie

Yes, an entree is a main course here- I know in France it is an appetizer, so I understand your confusion.

To you a biscuit is probably a cookie, to us it is a bread item frequently served with breakfast. Biscuits are usually savory , not sweet , and are a bit like a scone in that they are about the same size and contain flour, baking powder, etc, but have a slightly different texture. At many breakfast buffets, you will find them offered either with butter, jam. or honey, or even with a gravy made from sausage meat- very popular in our Southern states. You will also find then offered as a side in many restaurants like Denny%26#39;s at breakfast , as one bread choice . They are alo served as a side bread with fried chicken often. Do take the opportunity to try them while you are here.

The tipping thing may be complicated , but in a restaurant usually 15-20% of the final total is left as a tip- our waiters get small salaries and depend on tips- perhaps our food prices would be higher in restaurants except that we tio waitstaff separately. We usualy leave a couple of dollars a day or more for the housekeeper in our hotel and tip the bellman at least a dollar per case if he handles lugagge. Also a few dollars for the valet parker if any and for a taxi or limo driver. Many customarily tip a dealer , especially if he has spun or dealt something lucky. And, if you are served complementary cocktails as you gamble, you%26#39;ll want to tip the server at least a dollar per drink- more in an upscale casino or if you want VERY good attentive service.

I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;ve forgotten a few- others will jump in and correct or add!

Enjoy your trip- especially those biscuits!

Thanks guys - that makes sense now!! and I will definitely try the biscuits! As you said, biscuits to us are your cookies and so I couldn%26#39;t work out how I would want something like a chocolate chip cookie with my fried chicken lol!!

    Cheers!

Well, everyone else seems to have answered your questions, so... Here is a picture of our biscuits. They are best with lots of butter or margarine. They are also good with gravy and sausage for breakfast.

    bfeedme.com/wp-content/…20Biscuits.jpg

    Have fun in Vegas! :)

brunch at the golden nugget had the best biscuits and gravy i%26#39;ve had outside of the south. yum!

Oh I don%26#39;t know, chocolate chip cookies as a side for fried chicken could work for me....

  • Trip report May 6-10, 2007 downtown

We flew Allegiant out of South Bend, IN. Plane was delayed 3 1/2 hours due to mechanical difficulties with the plane in Las Vegas. No big deal. We were on vacation. We had booked a BOGO flight that included a 4 night stay in a hotel. This was cheaper than booking a flight and taking comped rooms. Did something I had said I would not do---took the shuttle from the airport. It was $12.00 round trip per person. This turned out great. We were the 2nd drop off. Some women were on our flight, took a cab to the same hotel, 4 Queens, and we arrived at the same time. I am sure a cab was more than $12.00. Check in was smooth, friendly staff. Went to the room. We did have a smoking room as per request. Did not smell at all of smoke. Had never stayed downtown before ands were pleasantly surprised at the room. Ate at Magnolias for supper and breakfast twice. Food was good. Used Players card and food was reasonably priced. Ate at Tony Romas for supper one evening. No wait. Food was very good. Gambling was not so good. It was fun but machines were tight. Did not see anyone win big at any casino we visited. We did not leave downtown so this was only casinos there. We did the best at the Fremont. In fact my husband put his card in and it told him to go to the reward booth and get his Godiva Latte. He won 4 bottles of latte which of course I got to carry around! I told him I couldn%26#39; t win a thing mwhile he was doing pretty good and I should have at least won the latte! We had been downtown for an evening last June and were surprised at how much cleaner the casinos were this year, especially Binions. We would definately stay downtown again. The shuttle picked us up at the horrid hour of 5am. Made two stops downtown and off to the airport. Would take Showtime shuttle again, at least to the downtown. The flight home was on time and smooth. All in all, we had a great, much needed vacation.

Trip report May 6-10, 2007 downtown

Sounds like fun. I like to play downtown. I used to stay at the Golden Nugget ..and before that the MINT...but now we stay at the Venetian...and go downtown a couple of times a year.

Trip report May 6-10, 2007 downtown

Nice condensed fun report! ( Don%26#39;t you just hate those that drag on reports into 6 or 7 parts?!!)

I have one tip for you though.

Don%26#39;t you realize that if you have to carry anything for anyone else in Vegas it becomes yours? That meant YOU won the Lattes you had to carry, lol.

I%26#39;m glad the place was cleaner. Interested to see what happens to it after the big remodel...

    Thank you for the report.

Lowrance, thank you for your comment on my report. Have never written one before and was a little unsure of myself. I will be sure to remember to carry everything for everyone from now on while in Vegas.

Nice TR! I love downtown, Dh and I spend about 1/2 our time there. I%26#39;m glad you had a nice trip. Thanks for sharing!

    Nurse---

Great downtown report, sorry you didn%26#39;t win bigger....darn the luck.

Did you get to check out Hennessey%26#39;s or Mickey Finn%26#39;s? What about El Cortez....we have not been there yet.

I have been watching for your report because so few of the TR%26#39;s here include downtown stays.

We are staying at the Fremont in July. I liked gambling slots there %26amp; at 4 Queens. Also agree that Magnolia%26#39;s is good.

We need more DT news like yours.

    Thanks,

    Mar.

We had restaurant.com certificates for Hennesseys and Mickey Fnns. We ate at Magnolias twice, Tony Romas once, as DH had to have ribs that night, and had Noble Romans pizza once. Noble Romans is in the Four Queens. We had planned on using one of the certifcates that night but the Fremont comped us a buffet for lunch and were too full for anything but a couple of slices of pizza. Actually it was quite good. The certificates do not expire until March of 2008 so an excuse to go before. Would not want to waste $8.00!

    Allegiant Air Fares

I just checked the fares from Fort Collins/Loveland. They have dropped to $69/way. If Allegiant flies out of your area, check fares, they%26#39;ve probably dropped.

    Allegiant Air Fares

No change in Des Moines, still $109 in July.

    Bummer.

Oh well, I already booked and once that%26#39;s done you are set with them.

Gas here just turned to $3.09, so I am thinking the flights will only go up.

    Allegiant Air Fares

Yup, they dropped again. They were 139 FOREVER. One day they dropped to 109, and I bought the tix. Then, they shot back up to 139. They%26#39;re back at 109 again.

    opinions on South Pointe

Just wondering what people%26#39;s opinions are of the South Pointe. Their prices have grabbed my attention and I can%26#39;t look away. I don%26#39;t care that it%26#39;s 6 miles off strip. I%26#39;m going with someone who said it doesn%26#39;t matter to her but I don%26#39;t want her to get there and regret it (not that I think she would.) Any opinions on the joint? Any additional options relative to distance from strip?

    Thanx

    opinions on South Pointe

Next to MGM, it%26#39;s my favorite Vegas hotel and casino.

See my review. Last I saw they had a shuttle to MB.

    opinions on South Pointe

And you can always trust Lowrance!

I have stayed at the South Pointe and the only thing that I can say that I didn%26#39;t like was how far it was away from the strip. They do have a free shuttle to the strip or you can ride the strip trolley for $1.75. The slots were loose, the food was good and they have the cheapest liquor prices in the gift shop that I have ever seen.

The rooms at the South Point (no ';e';) are as nice as most on The Strip for about half the price. Shuttle will take you to and from Mandalay Bay. Low minimums for gambling, slots are not as tight as at other casinos, food is good and at reasonable prices. Movie theater, poker room, great sportsbook.

My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with South Point when we stayed last year. Pool area was nicely laid out (shade available), room was huge and very clean. The gift shop items (water, alcohol, etc.) were reasonable priced, as were the restaurants. In the casino I was able to find low minimums, cocktail waitresses passed by frequently, and my husband received so many drink vouchers at the sports book we would up giving about half away (they are date stamped). Getting to and from the strip without a car wasn%26#39;t difficult at all. Movie theater, bowling and bingo on premises were neat features, and we even got to see an equestrian event at their arena for free. We would definitely stay here again.

South Point is a great place to stay. They have just about everything you need, plenty of restaurants, pool, lots of slots and table games, great rooms at the cheapest prices and it%26#39;s new.

Another vote for South Point. We stayed there over Easter weekend and were really happy with the place. Our room was large and clean, with an oversized bathroom. The cafe and deli offered good food at reasonable prices (the eclairs at del mar deli were amazing!). The casino had lots of slots to choose from, and it was never so busy that I couldn%26#39;t find a machine I liked. We rented a car (about $115 total for 4 days) so getting around was very easy, but they do offer a shuttle. We plan to stay here on our next trip!

I%26#39;m staying at South Point next week but I have been researching it for a few months and have really heard nothing bad about it other than the distance from the strip. Sounds like they have great rooms, a nice casino, reasonable restaurants and a nice pool area. I couldn%26#39;t pass up the rates either but based on all the information I have gathered I think I will be pleasantly surprised at the facility. Hope you are too!

    mbac

I just booked my group there too. If you book via Southwest Airlines website it appears prices are even better ($50 for mid week). Click through the special Deals on hotels links. That is what I did. I have young kids to grandparents in my group, and this seems like it will fit our bill to a T.

Be sure to check http://www.fatwallet.com/t/63/704925/ for special promotions. Depending on when you are traveling South Point has a few different promo%26#39;s going on.

    mbac

Another hotel question, if you can stand it....

At the rate the hot deals are coming through now, I%26#39;m booking reservations almost as fast as I can cancel the last ones!

We are a family of 4 including twin 14 y.o. and LV is the last stop on a whirlwind tour of AZ, CO, UT and NV this July. I have booked rooms at the Paris, Flamingo and Bally%26#39;s. All at the same basic rate. I%26#39;ve heard that all are clean and well-maintained properties.

Which has the biggest rooms? Which has the best pool? Which has the best offerings for inexpensive breakfasts and snacks (they%26#39;re always hungry!)? Which is closest to the monorail stops? Which are closest to trolley stops?

If you%26#39;ve traveled with kids or know these properties well, which would you recommend?

Another hotel question, if you can stand it....

    You%26#39;re asking for trouble........

Another hotel question, if you can stand it....

I%26#39;ve only stayed at Bally%26#39;s, but I can tell you the following:

    1. While not the best pool in Vegas, it is one of the deepest, if you are actually interested in swimming.

    2. The first time we saw a room at Bally%26#39;s, one of the first things we commented on was how big it seemed. (Standard room, don%26#39;t remember which tower.)

We have stayed at the Flamingo several times and will again in July. The rooms are a nice size. They have a great pool that has slides for the kids. The monorail stops at the back of the hotel. Also, across the street is a place called O%26#39;Sheas and they have a Subway, Burger King and a pizza place for some ';cheaper'; eats. Enjoy!

I don%26#39;t even know where to start on this one. I would not recommend any of those three hotels for families traveling with children, as they are not particularly long on activities for those under 21. Nor is Vegas well suited for a ';whirlwind tour'; visit - most of us feel that anything less than 2 or 3 nights is just a cruel tease of what the city has to offer.

My suggestion would be that you leave Vegas out of your whirlwind tour and plan to come back another time when you can properly enjoy your visit - perhaps without the kids.

    Hi vacdiva:

    Biggest rooms: Bally%26#39;s

Nicest most well appointed rooms: Paris

    Best Pool: Flamingo**

Best place for kids: Flamingo (pool only) as they have a waterslide, but with the **pool parties that they are starting up that include **';bikini bull riding'; not sure if that is the best place. So, personally, I give the nod to Paris

As far as breakfast and snacks, none of them are that cheap, but Bally%26#39;s has a good cafe (sidewalk cafe) that is reasonably priced. If you stayed at Paris for example, you could easily walk thru the mall that connects Paris/Bally%26#39;s to get there.

Bally%26#39;s has a monorail stop but if there are 4 of you, just take a taxi it will cost the same.

To me Paris seems to be the most kid friendly.

    Have fun.

Flamingo for the pool would be our choice. While they are all close in location, I agree with the cheap eats at O';Sheas next door.

And no, not everyone who isn%26#39;t a fan of kids in Vegas is going to slam you. Only certain people who insist that those of us who travel without are unfit parents keep the debate going.

Enjoy the trip WITH you family!!

You guys are the best! Thanks for your thoughtful responses. I am still very torn so I am keeping all reservations until I%26#39;ve had time to do more thinking and planning.

I suspect that Stratton misread my post: the whirlwind part referred to touring 4 states, not just Vegas. We will actually be in Vegas for 5 full days and the kids are full-fledged teens, not rugrats. My first trip to LV was when I was 16 and I still remember it as being a great vacation.

Between this forum and the one on Fatwallet I%26#39;ve made some wonderful finds! Thank you again.

    Biggest Rooms? Ballys

    Best Pool? Flamingo (by far!)

Best inexpensive breatfasts and snacks? None. Pick up some pop-tarts or whatever and keep them around.

    Closest to monorail stops? Flamingo

Closest to trolly stops? Don%26#39;t take the trolly, take the Deuce.

Which to recommend? Flamingo by a wide margin. The pool and outdoor area blow away anything Bally%26#39;s or Paris has to offer kids.

Paris is the better hotel of the 3.

    Flamingo has the better pool.

Tomvegas brought up the point of the pool parties at the Flamingo, so that would be a negative for me me. In my experience, the pool gets so crowded and full of people the last thing I wanted to do was share water with all of them...I can%26#39;t imagine how much more of a zoo it will be with the pool parties.

I%26#39;d pick Paris for a more themed hotel. True that the rooms at Bally%26#39;s are larger, but I%26#39;d still take Paris. Part of being in Vegas for me is the themeing of the hotels

If you really wnat a fun pool area for your twins, have you priced the Monte Carlo for your stay? While the rooms aren%26#39;t as nicely appointed as Paris, there is a lazy river pool, a wave pool and a quiet pool. The atmosphere overalll is not a party scene, and there are plenty of cheaper places to eat. You won%26#39;t be mid strip, but there is a tram between the MC and Bellagio to get you up there (at least, I think it%26#39;s still running--anyone know for sure??). Just a suggestion as they have released some cheap rates in the last few days.

  • Breakfast buffet suggestions

Hi group. We will be staying at the MGM grand for one night in May. Any suggestions for a good restaurant for a buffet breakfast within walking distance of the hotel?

    Thanks

    Breakfast buffet suggestions

Paris has one of the best breakfast buffets, according to the members here

    Breakfast buffet suggestions

Bellagio is the best in my opinion. Just a hint. It opens at 8 am.

If you see a line at 8 am, it clears really quick when they open.

My vote goes for Paris. If you choose the Paris, you won%26#39;t be disappointed.

We had the Paris and the MGM buffets for breakfast while we were there last week and honestly I liked the MGM better, although nothing beats the crepes at Paris!

Paris is the best. Get there before 9...the line can be over an hour long if you wait til mid-morning.

They don%26#39;t close while they%26#39;re changing from breakfast to lunch...that%26#39;s a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your perspective.

I ate at the MGM buffet last week and it was mostly good (The Eggs benedict were only luke warm, but the rest was very good)

My favorite is in Paris. Several others have said the Mandalay Bay has a very good one, with shorter lines. It%26#39;s just a short walk, then a short tram ride away.

    Paris for breakfast.

We tried the Luxor,New york and Bellagio and the Bellagio was miles ahead but more expensive. The cost is 21 dollars without champagne and 29 dollars with. Everything at the buffet is delicious and seems more luxurious than the others hotels.(but they were only 12 ish dollars)You can have anything from fresh king prawns to Eggs benedict to pizza. It was one of the highlights of my stay I would definately recommend it!!

Any buffet that is not in the Flamingo...IT WAS HORRIBLE. Seriously, the food is better at a McDonalds.

My BF and I were in Las Vegas from 4/25-5/2. We went to the Paris casino and each signed up for their Total Rewards card. Along with the card, we received a coupon booklet that included a $5.00 off coupon for the Paris buffet (regular price is $14.99 for the breakfast buffet). The coupons are good for up to 4 in a party, and the cashiers seemed to be holding to that rule. We used one of them the next morning. It was wonderful. They had everything that one could want for breakfast. Made to order crepes (I had a delicious cherry filled one) and omelettes. Service was great, and I was amazed at how friendly the waitstaff were. We got there at about 8am and only had a few minutes wait. We noticed the line was much longer on our way out. My BF was skeptical about a buffet, and I had to drag him in kicking and screaming. About half way through our breakfast, he said…”we are coming back tomorrow.” And…we did, and it was just as good as the day before! As a side note, you can also sign up for Bill’s (formerly the Barbary Coast) Players Club card, and they will also give you a coupon booklet with a Paris buffet coupon.

Harrah's Players Card Coupon Book Comparison

Going to sign up for a Harrahs card when we arrive. I saw about coupon books for $$ off restaurants, shows, etc. Are the books the same in all the properties, and if they%26#39;re different, which Harrah%26#39;s affiliated casino seems to have the best coupons?? As always, thanks for your help--love this site!!

Harrah's Players Card Coupon Book Comparison

It changes all the time. When I signed up last year, TotalRewards didn%26#39;t give coupon books, but Imperial Palace did.

Harrah's Players Card Coupon Book Comparison

Don%26#39;t know about the difference in coupon books...but Barbary/Bill%26#39;s is also giving Harrah%26#39;s coupon books when you sign up even though they are not part of the Total Rewards system yet. Even if they are the same coupons in all books, it doesn%26#39;t hurt to have extra copies.

When I got my total rewards card last year, they didn%26#39;t give coupons, but I did get a free T-shirt.

I%26#39;m here right now. In fact i signed up at Harrahs on Monday. I did not get a coupon book but they gave me a fairly nice bag. (looks like a camera bag) some plastic bling bling and a folder about how the rewards work. No coupons, but just ask. My wife signed up the next day and did not get the plastic bling. I have found that when you ask for things here, people are usually helpful. There are coupon books everywhere and sometimes out in front of Harrahs they pass out coupons there. Good luck!!!!

When my friend signed up for her card at Harrahs then the Imperial Palace the only difference, really, in the books was the coupon for the buffets.

There are 2 or 3 coupons for shopping, drinks at the bar, etc.

Buy a few bottles of liquor, ';meet'; some girls on the street and book a room downtown at the Western. You can party all you want and the girls will find anything and everything you want.

This way your ';party'; will not bother anyone else. And a 2 week stay at the Western will not cost you too much.

Enjoy and welcome to America mate%26#39;.

Hi Jay351 ,do not go to the Western downtown it is a poo hole

this guy is taking the micky outa you.

You can party hard at the TI , PALMS , HARD ROCK %26amp; many more.

So now Croc Dundee knows more than me?

What%26#39;s next, are you going to tell me the Croc Hunter is dead?

    Crikee!!!

RIO Voodoo. Palms, Hard Rock, and a million other LV spots!

    Question about Bill's...another trip

Mom, 77, has a sister who is 92 and ill in a nursing home. She wants to make a trip June 24-27. At first she was insistant on staying at the Paris but the price is pretty steep for us. I%26#39;ve looked around and found decent reviews about Bill%26#39;s/Barbary. Any reviews?

Looked on forum search but didn%26#39;t see much for this year.

As sad as the trip is I%26#39;m looking forward to going back--and it gives me an excuse to revisit the board more often!

    Question about Bill's...another trip

Sorry, sister is in Vegas...thats why the trip.

If you are looking for the lowest price, then try Gold Coast, but its not on the strip.

Bill%26#39;s is good enough and clean enough, if you are not expecting too much luxury.

Also there are low cost hotels at the fremont down town area

We have stayed at Bill%26#39;s many times, when it was Barbary Coast. We love the hotel. Great rooms, great location and it is small which is a bonus for getting to and from your room. You will love it!

Bill%26#39;s is a fantastic little hotel and casino. The rooms are small but plush and well appointed. It%26#39;s the location that is the real winner. Read the reviews for Bill%26#39;s here:

    …tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g45963-d91700-…

Stayed at Bill%26#39;s last week after reading very positive reviews on this site, it is very central and the cost is reasonable, however whilst the rooms were clean I wouldn%26#39;t say they were plush. In fact I found the hotel very rundown and in desperate need of renovation, the first room we were allocated had tiles coming away from the wall in the bathroom, and the window in the bathroom was cracked. Look at fatwallet.com they often have very good promos for hotels in Vegas, we used one of them to move out of Bill%26#39;s early and go to the Luxor-$90 weekdays and $149 weekends.

I never got to stay while it was Barbary. I don%26#39;t care about the room as long as it is clean and decently maintained. I like the location alot and we do want to stay on the strip.

I found 74.00 room rate at expedia so it seems reasonable enough.

I do wish I could get mom that room at the Paris though...I%26#39;ll just keep checking rates and hoping for the best.

Oh Dusty! Another trip?...that means another trip report! I%26#39;m sorry your aunt is in a nursing home, but glad you can bring your Mom out to visit - wherever that would be - nicer that it%26#39;s in Vegas!

Too bad you can%26#39;t come out for our Meet and Greet on the 12th.

Keep checking those Paris rates, ya never know. At least you%26#39;re traveling on cheaper dates.

    Hehehe, thanks Loveland...

If you call and book directly with Bill%26#39;s through their reservation line and you have AAA they will give you a discount. I think it%26#39;s only good weekdays though. Maybe other hotels offer the same discount?

My husband and I be staying at Bill%26#39;s in June for the 2nd time. We have a rate of 54 a night weekdays and 90 on the weekend.

We had suite on our last trip so I%26#39;m not able to say what the standard rooms are like but the suite was surprisingly nice.

We don%26#39;t usually spend alot of time in the room so a basic room is OK for us. We were upgraded for free last trip but it was still The Barbary Coast then so I assume it will not happen again now that it is a Harrahs property. I%26#39;m going to ask anyway!

I feel the casino is a little rough around the edges but in a good way! At least I think.

Very old school feel...almost like it%26#39;s such a dive that it%26#39;s hip...if that makes any sense.

Drink service has always been fantastic.

I like the low minimums at the tables.

The coffee shop does a decent breakfast.

I like that the hotel is small and easy to get from the elevator to your room without have to walk through a huge casino.

I do miss a pool from time to time though. If the rumors are true you may be able to use the pool at The Flamingo or at The Imperial Palace....lot%26#39;s of conflicting answers on that so I %26#39;m not counting on it.

Sorry your trip is sad. :0(

    Dusty,

If your mom has any trouble getting around, Bill%26#39;s would be a good choice. It%26#39;s not a big production to get from your room to the front door..can be done in two minutes. I have stayed there a few times and found the rooms to be just fine. I am not too impressed with the rest anymore. Going downhill some.
