TR- Golden Nugget 06/05 - 10/05

I%26#39;m more of a lurker than a poster but I thought I would post a trip review. This was our 3rd trip down to Vegas staying again at the Golden Nugget on Fremont Street.

*WEATHER*

Awesome! Sunday was around 67 F and it just got hotter as the days went on.

*FLIGHT*

We left Vancouver on 06/05 via WestJet Boeing 737-800 series to Vegas. Excellent service. We arrived at the airport 3 hours prior to departure to make our seat selection. It was on first come, first serve basis. We sat at the exit row which gave us lots of room. The flight was 2 hours and 9 minutes. We arrived 20 minutes earlier than expected.

Coming home was 2 hours and 12 minutes. Smooth flight.

*McCARREN CAR RENTAL*

After picking up our baggage, we got onto the shuttle bus to the car rental building. There were lots of buses to take you there, no huge line ups at the bus stop. The driver was nice and gave us directions after we got off the bus.

We made a reservation at dollar.com. I went in to the counter while my husband waited for the driver to get our luggage. Luckily, I did as I waited in line for about 15 minutes. I think I would sign up for the dollar express - you bypass the actual counter line and go to the express booth in the car lot. Once we got to the counter, the service was quick. 4 days, Dodge Caliber, $157.00.

Easy access to and from the strip.

*GOLDEN NUGGET*

The traffic on Las Vegas Blvd was a zoo! Of course, my husband told me to take I-15 to Charleston but I wanted to drive The Strip. What a mistake that was. I should have known better. We did end up getting off the Strip after sitting in the traffic for 15 minutes.

When we finally got to the GN, check in was a breeze. Thanks to the recommendations here on TA, I called the GN and asked for the VIP status. I%26#39;m glad I did as when we walked to the main check in counter, there must have been 20 people in line - it was busy!

We went into the VIP lounge, checked in in less than 2 minutes and off we went to our room 477 in the South Tower. Highly recommend paying the $15.00 for the VIP.

Since we were regulars at the GN, we were enrolled in the Private Arrangement - this gives you special deals and earn points for your nights stays so we had enough points to redeem for 2 nights which undoubtly made our trip even cheaper.

The room we had was at the back facing the parkade - not a big deal. It was clean - as usual when we go to the GN.

We received a coupon book at check in. Used a few of the coupons to save some $$ the buffet and at Carson St. cafe

Lots of guests using the swimming pool. Saw the Shark tank, nothing exciting. I guess if your actually in the pool it would be neat to go down the water slide through the tank. Maybe next time. Every Wednesday night, they have a pool party. There%26#39;s some dancing, free drinks and prizes. Great for people who like that kind of atmosphere.

*GAMBLING*

Slots are not as loose as I remember at the GN. Didn%26#39;t win anything BIG there. We drove to The Strip and got us some free slot plays and players cards at the Riveria, Sahara and Circus Circus. We got lucky and won about $500.00 out of the free plays. Not bad for not spending a single penny of our own. Other hotels we went to when signing up gave us coupon books, collapsible cosmetic bags and playing cards.

Most of the bigger hotels are affliated with each other so, there might be one player card that you can use for 5 different hotels.

*SHOPPING*

We went shopping at The Forum shops, Fashion Show Mall and at the Premium Outlet mall. Great deals if your a Canadian. I got some deals at the Eddie Bauer Outlet. You can get a coupon book at the information/concierge booths for stores at these malls. I downloaded and printed a coupon to take with me to the info booths to receive the coupon book. I%26#39;m not sure if it%26#39;s necessary though.

The things that we%26#39;ll do different on our next trip are:

-use the hotel ammenties - pool

-venture out and eat at other buffets and restaurants.

-possible watch some shows

-play more table games oppose to just slots.

Overall, we had a blast!

We%26#39;re planning on our next trip in October with another couple. We%26#39;ll put the coupon books that we got from some of the hotels to good use.

Hope this review helps in some ways or another!

How was the buffet?

Where else did you eat?

TR- Golden Nugget 06/05 - 10/05

We mostly ate at the GN buffet and at Carson Street Cafe since we had some coupons. The buffet was alright. I think it could have been better.

We did dine at the Rio%26#39;s World Carnival Buffet. That was good. And we had a $3.99 breakfast at the Golden Gate Hotel. Pretty good $ for the portion.

LOL.....we were just there too at the same time you were! Glad someone else thought the VIP was a good idea....I was so happy we had decided to do it when we saw the line we got to skip when we got there! Sounds like you had a fun trip.......glad you won some money on the strip!
