When is Vegas too Busy?

Curious how many people can go to Vegas before it%26#39;s just too busy? I know NASCAR brings in quite a few people, New Years would be up there, as well as other times and events. How about conventions?

I have been planning (already booked room and flight) for 9/5 – 9/10. Going to see UW Badgers take on UNLV. I’ve been told 30,000 – 40,000 people make the trip to Vegas to watch this game.

Just last night, I found out MTV is changing the location of the VMA’s to Las Vegas the same weekend. Not sure how many people this will bring, but I am getting concerned about dinner reservations and it simply being too busy and packed everywhere to have a good time.

Does anyone know how many people are expected to come to Vegas for the VMA’s? Or should I even be concerned?

When is Vegas too Busy?

Don%26#39;t spend too mucvh time worrying about it. Anyone coming specifically for the MTV awards will not be old enough to gamble and won%26#39;t be making dinner reservations, they don%26#39;t take them at Burger King. All of the Badger fans will be at the Hofbrauhaus for beer and brats.

Well, this past weekend was CRAZY but we only felt the impact trying to get a cab from the airport. We landed at midnight on Friday, May 4 and stood in a taxi line for an hour and a half. Not kidding. It completely and totally sucked. Vegas was hoppin%26#39; due to the de la Hoya fight as well as the Derby.

We never really noticed the increase of people while trying to eat or enjoy the casinos though. So, if you%26#39;ve got your ground transportation all set you may not even really notice.

The NBA All Star game weekend was a complete mess. I heard it was as bad if not worse than any New Years Eve. A bunch of travelers, myself included, were stranded in Vegas an extra day or two due to Southwest on Monday. But you couldn%26#39;t move around the casinos at all, and it was not like people were gambling and party, just people standing around- it was horrible.

i was during the nba all star weekend but i still had fun. we walked the strip one night, from mgm to caesars, and it was fun people watching. it was crowded but we didnt feel like it was unsafe. ive never seen so many cops in one place before, there were a few every 10-15 ft. we did see two separate arrests but didnt realize there were shootings and stuff until after i got back and read the news. the buffets and table games were not crowded. i wouldnt worry about it being crowded too much althoughwe drove so dont know about the cab/airport situation. i dont think you%26#39;ll find it as crowded as the nba weekend and i thought it wasnt that bad.

The weeks after Labor Day are traditionally very slow, and typically a good bargain.

Although 40,000 folks may seem like a lot for most destinations to handle, it does not even constitute a medium-sized convention crowd for Vegas. Major conventions and events will attract upwards of 100,000 persons.

I think its naive to say not to worry about the MTV awards because anyone attending will be young. Any awards show could effect several aspects of your trip to Vegas especially if you are staying close to where the shows are being held. The hotel and traffic patterns the night of the show will be ridiculous with red carpet limos and celebrities not to mention mega security. It will definaly be a nuisance for the day before and day of the awards for the hotel and the nearsurrounding hotels.

stay away from the Palms and you should be OK. I wouldn%26#39;t think it would draw any more people than a large convention.

Fight weekend last weekend was busier than other weekends I%26#39;ve been in Vegas and in my opinion it was too busy. In addition to the long taxi lines already mentioned, table minimums were high much earlier in the day than normal, unless you were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar drink service was slow and while I didn%26#39;t partake the buffett lines were HUGE.

Hopefully my alma mater will do to the Badgers what we did to them in Basketball in March. What a great day that was at the United Center in front of 20,000 Wisconsin fans, actually it was very similar to what we did to the Badger football team in Madison two years ago. Jamaal Brimmer anyone??

ok all smack aside. Yeah, Wisconsin does bring about 25,000 fans to the game, which doesnt even make a dent in Vegas. Were you here the last time Wisconsin was in town about 4 years ago when the transformer blew and the game was stopped in the 4th qtr. The casinos didnt have to pay the bets. Most of the $$ was on Wisconsin which won big and covered. Lots of conspiracy theories about that.
