TR May 6-10 Day 2...MSS, Orleans, New Frontier, Wynn

Day 2.....I met my mom downstairs at 9:30 am and we had breakfast in the Golden Nugget at the Carson Street Cafe. I had the breakfast burrito, and my mom had an omelette. Even if we stay on the strip, I try to make it a point to go downtown for breakfast at least once so I can get the breakfast burrito here. They are really good!

After breakfast we walked over to Main Street Station. I’ve never been here, but after reading all these trip reports, I decided we should check it out. What a neat building!! We signed up for the player’s club card and we got a deck of playing cards, and a 4 pack of Godiva latte for signing up. My mom doesn’t drink coffee or latte, so I got hers too...score! I played 3 or 4 slots here, and ended up $42 ahead thanks to a good Pompeii machine that was paying off for me (Veni...Vidi....Vici!) . This hotel has some very cool old time photographs on the walls heading to the bathrooms. There were also some nice chandeliers, and other antiques that you could see.

On the way back we walked down towards the Plaza so we could check out the old railroad cars that they have along the outside (On the way over we had walked over in front of the California). We had one homeless person ask us for money, and we just said no and kept walking. He told us to have a nice day anyway. This was the only homeless person we saw, and it was no bother. On the other hand, during our first day as we were crossing the pedestrian bridge from Bally’s to Bill’s, there was a homeless person who was openly swigging from a vodka bottle and totally harassing people. I have to step on my soapbox for a minute because I know some people think downtown is unsafe, etc. I’ve never felt unsafe down there and still don’t. I felt more uncomfortable with the guy on the bridge on the strip than I did downtown!!

OK....so I had wanted to go to the Beef Jerky store (it’s been on my to-do list), but the Godiva’s were about to break through the plastic bag they were in, so we decided to drop them off in my room and head to the Orleans. I had never been here either, but decided to check it out after reading about it on this forum! It was about a 20 minute drive, and we were there. What a fun place!! I really liked the “vibe” in this casino. Everyone seemed like they were having a lot of fun! We also did really well on the slots. My mom played a new penny machine we’d never seen called “Ducks in a Row”, and she won $60 alone on the bonus game!! I found a “Lucky Lemmings” machine that paid me $50 on my $20 investment. This game has the cutest bonus round!! We stayed for a few hours and had a lot of fun. We walked back out to the car, and my mom handed me the keys. I hit the “unlock button” and nothing happened. Hmmm....I tried again and nothing. I looked in the car, and realized we were standing outside the WRONG tan car! Oops...moved down to the right car, and I tried again. The doors wouldn’t unlock on this one either, but I knew it was the right car. I thought maybe the batteries in the remote were dying, so I tried to unlock the door with they key, but that wasn’t working either. Just as I was about to get frustrated, I realized my mom had handed me they keys for her car back in Denver, and not the rental car keys!! We had a good giggle over this, finally got in the car and headed to the Wynn.

We had stayed at the Wynn for 2 nights during a trip in January, and while we were there we had great luck at the New Frontier, so we decided to head there again. We valet parked the car at the Wynn and then walked across the street. I found another good Pompeii machine, and my mom hit a “Mr. Cashman- Arctic Ice” that paid $40. They have penny “Deal or no Deal” machines, and I was playing one of those. This woman who was sitting next to me would look over every time I hit on anything, and she’d stare until the credits had finished adding up on my total. I hate that!! I know the slots are totally random, but as soon as she sat down and started doing that I swear the machine went cold. I cashed out $10, and went to a new machine. My mom and I played the Monopoly Big Event penny machine that they have towards one of the entrances. We were the only two playing, and we usually play max lines X 2 credits per line. All of a sudden the free parking bonus came up, so we both got to play. It landed on the lowest one (the wheel barrow I think), so we each got $6.50. After a few minutes the “Once around the board” bonus came on, so we both got to play that, and ended up with $32 from that one! About 3 minutes later it happened again!! This time my machine was on a “2X bonus”, so I got twice the around the board amount. I ended up cashing out $80 and my mom had $50!! Wheee....I’ve played that before, and never had the bonus come up at all, so it was fun to finally see one hit multiple times!

We walked back over to the Wynn and played for awhile with not much luck. I went to the show shop to pick up a LeReve CD (we saw that last year and I loved it!). We had dinner at the Terrace Point Cafe. If anyone out there likes Bleu Cheese with their burgers, they have an amazing bleu cheese stuffed burger here! It’s crumbled on the top, and melted in the middle as well...yummy! My mom had the prime rib special and said it was really good too.

Picked up the car and headed downtown again. We headed to the Fremont and gambled for awhile. I was going to try and get one of the 99 cent margaritas, but the bar at the back was packed, and had a huge line...everyone else had the same idea! We ended up walking down to Binion’s and they had a margarita stand at the front where you could get the specialty glasses for $8. They had the footballs too, but we opted for the glasses (no fumbles for me tonight!!) The bartender put about 6-8 shots of tequila in the blender, and they were fairly potent!! We continued on down Fremont, and stopped in the Vegas Club to play a machine (we’d never been in here). On our way past Mermaid’s we had a debate about one of the “women” who was outside with beads trying to entice player’s to come in. My mom thought one of them was a man in drag, but I swore it was just a really ugly woman. Two guys walking by heard us, and said they agreed with me that it was just an ugly woman...LOL. We went to the Plaza and had ok luck. Finally made our way back to the Nugget and up to bed. Day 3 plans included driving to Henderson, Lake Las Vegas, Green Valley Ranch, and the Rio.
