GC South Rim tour from Vegas

We are planning to take a day tour to the south rim from las vegas but are a bit mixed up about the choice since there are various options. We have the option to upgrade a south rim bus tour by substituting stops at Mather and Yavapai points with a 30 minute heli flight over the north canyon.

Is it worth missing these points for the heli flight, or shall we be seeing them from the helicopter just the same?

The helicopter ride is over the north canyon. Is this another part of the grand canyon? (since this is a south rim tour)

I would really like suggestions regarding this kind of tours to help us decide if we should take the south rim tour and helicopter flight or just the south rim bus tour

I%26#39;ve never done a day trip from Vegas to GC (if at all possible you should try to spend the night at the canyon to fully appreciate its magic) but I know enough to tell you that any bus tour involves 5-6 hours on the bus each way from and to LV and isn%26#39;t my idea of a fun day. If you%26#39;re going to do a day trip then it%26#39;s got to be by plane or helicopter.

I know it%26#39;s a long trip by bus but it seems that by helicopter many stops are missed and it lands only in the west rim. We would prefer to visit the south rim gc national park. If we go by plane to the south rim we would miss the hoover dam stop and williams railway depot. Or is is not that worth it?

If you want to see Hoover Dam then you would be better off renting a car and driving there and back yourself rather than stopping there en route to the Grand Canyon. That way you can spend as much or as little time as you like at the dam rather than being herded off and on a bus.

The railroad depot at Williams is fun but not really a big deal. Don%26#39;t worry if you don%26#39;t get to see it.

Is the five hour bus trip a scenic drive at least?

If you can only spend a day, take a plane ride as I did which stops at the south rim and buses you to different rims for viewing. They also provide lunch and you do get to see the dam dam from the air on your way.
