TR - Luxor 5/4 - 5/7

Trip Report 5/4 to 5/7 at the Luxor

Friend was going to vegas with a bunch of his friends, so I decided to tag along. My 4th trip overall and I will be back

again in July, so I didn%26#39;t really plan too much. Just go with the flow and enjoy my time there. I%26#39;ll post this by

category instead of day by day since I like that format a little better.

Flights:

7 am flight from Boston. Up at 3:30, catch the 4:30 logan express bus, arrive at airport by 5. US air check-in was fine,

security line was quick and flight left on time. They did announce that there were some 1st class seats available for

$150. Should have taken it, but I didn%26#39;t. Arrived in Vegas at 9:55 a.m. local time. Uneventful flight.

Flight back to Boston was at 10:48 P.M. on Monday, so I had a full day in Vegas. This time I did the self checkin at US Air

and got myself an exit row seat. Lots of legroom. Plane was pretty empty, people were sleeping across 3 seats. Another

uneventful flight. Got to boston at 6:50 a.m. Go outside to catch the bus and its freezing. Shorts and a t-shirt were

ok in vegas, but not at 7 am in 45 degree weather.

Cabs:

Grabbed a cab to the luxor. Line was pretty long, but it moved fast. 30 minutes and we were on our way. Luxor please. I

was debating on telling him ';No Tunnel'; but I didn%26#39;t. Lets see what happens. All surface roads, nice. Maybe $12 inc tip.

*** warning, warning, read and learn ***

Do not try to get a cab at the hard rock on a saturday night. Tried to get one at 3:00 am saturday night and the line was

1 hour long. But they have a good racket going. They let in a ton of limos and town cars to give people rides. Only $85

for 4 people to go about 1.5 miles. We passed and took a cab. $10, but a nice long wait.

*** TIP ***

Sunday night, 2 am hard rock. Cab line is about 30-40 minutes long. When you leave from the front door there are cabs that

are going away from the cab line because they just dropped someone off. We made eye contact with a driver and he gave us

the head nod and we met him at the end of the parking lot and got right in. No wait and a big tip for the driver.

Hotel:

Stayed at the luxor. Got the standard pyramid room room thru an orbitz package. Checked in at 11 am, short line and it

went fast. Lady said we can have the pyramid room or for an extra $20 a night we can go in the tower. Took the standard

room. Room 25096. Up inclinator 1 and then look for the farthest room possible. Thats us. Room was just fine, 2 double

beds, bathroom was fine, nice fake stone tiles in the shower, good pressure etc. view was of the excal and a bit of the

MGM. Made sure not to hit my head on the tilted window.

Overall the hotel was great. Casino was easy to navigate, place seemed clean, lighting was fine etc. Pool area is just a

few pools with a lot of chairs all around. They had lots of people walking around picking up towels from the lounge chairs.

No problems getting a lounger there. No, we didn%26#39;t light up the cigars at the pool, but I believe that others were doing

it. We just didn%26#39;t have any with us at the time.

Fine Dining:

This was by far my weakest trip for eating. Nathans, McDonald%26#39;s (x3), Hooter%26#39;s wings, pyramid cafe and burger bar. We

were there to drink and gamble and food just wasn%26#39;t on the top of anyones list. Used the ACG coupon for nathans and got a

free menu item. Hooters wings are really good. Finally tried the Kobe beef burger at the BB and it lived up to the hype.

Gambling:

Won a little here, lost a little there. Overall, down a few hundred. Here are the highlights. Hooters - Money Storm slot

machine. I think it was $.05. Threw in a $50 and hit the bonus round on my 2nd spin. 4 symbols and got 10 bonus spins.

Had $100 after the bonus spins. Cash out..... +$50. Blackjack @ Hard Rock. Used the ACG coupon and got their page of

coupons. It has an up to $25 match play. Throw the coupon and a $20 on the blackjack table, say ';Cash play'; and proceed to

get a 15 against the dealers 3. I stay, he busts. Pocket my $20 and have $40 in chips. Not bad. BJ at the tropicana,

they had a promotion for the fight, get a suited blackjack and get a fight t-shirt. I got a free t-shirt. Craziest move was

next. Nothing was going good and then I get 6-6 against the dealers 7. I had a $25 bet, so I put up another $25 and split

em. I can%26#39;t remember exactly what the next few cards were, but they must have it on the video tape. First card is a 7 for

a 13, take the hit, get an 8, 21, stay. Next card is a 9 for a 15, take a hit, get a 5, stay on 20. Dealer has his 17 and

I win both hands. Table was quite amused.

Poker is my main game in vegas. Im no expert, but I think i%26#39;m pretty good. I just play the low fee tournaments. Played 4

of them at planet hollywood. Very nice look to the casino with all of the renovations. Its a $60 buy in for $4,000 in chips

and 20 minute levels. The poker room is pretty nice and the games draw a decent crowd. This must have been locals week

because there were tons of locals at the tables. Came in 20th our of 74, 8th out of 43, 14th out of 44 and 4th out of 40.

Just cashed in 1 tourney for $196. Not too bad. I was happy with my play.

Over all this was a pretty good trip. Not a lot of sleep, bad food, decent gaming and late nights. If anyone has any

question, just post em below and I%26#39;ll try to answer them.

TR - Luxor 5/4 - 5/7

I think you covered it very well, so no questions here.

Nice catch of a cab at HR.

No head banging on Luxor window, so you%26#39;re one up on me!

Looks like the menu I%26#39;ll have to do if I get my wanted upcoming trip.

I left the MGM on the 4th. It started to get crowded that Thursday night. How crowded was it down at your end?

Crowds weren%26#39;t that bad. I was expecting a lot more people, but I just never ran into them. It was easy for a weekend to find a spot at a BJ table or a craps table. I didn%26#39;t see any huge lines for restaurants or bars. The only place we ran into big crowds was at the hard rock and that was just probably because of the clubs.

i guess you were there 3 night i will also be coming frome the east coast for just 3 nights................did you feel rushed or was that enough time there.

Very good TR i see you had 3 days of fun ,my turn in August.

Papadoc,

3 nights in vegas were enough for me. Got there friday morning and left very late on monday, so it was a full 4 days. The best advice that I can give you is to do your homework and know as much about vegas as you can. It will really help cut down on your downtime. Nothing is worse than to have a group of people spend an hour just trying to figure out what to do.

If this is your first time then I would suggest planning 1 activity a day/night and then winging the rest. This will give you some structure and enough time to just explore and goof around. But at least you have 1 definite thing to do every day.

Have a great trip.

Jhm, We are heading to Luxor next month I just wanted to see if all the construction is done by the pools. I called them and they said yes. Just wanted to make sure and if it is done what did they do?

Nice report...I myself am not fond of the Luxor casino...I have not stayed there. I feel closed in there..don%26#39;t know why...I am glad you had a good time...Slotto

Sunfish,

Im embarrassed to say that I really didn%26#39;t notice what was going on by the pool. The big mistake that I made was forgetting to bring my sunglasses and not picking up a cheap pair while I was out there. So I just pretty much looked at the ground while walking around, found a good lounge chair and caught some rays for an hour or so each day. It was pretty sunny out so it was hard to look around with all of that sunshine and glare.

We walked by 1 pool near the entrance. From what I can remember, there was another pool to the left that was roped off, but I didn%26#39;t see any construction going on. I think they have 4 pools, so I must have missed a few. Like I said, I didn%26#39;t really walk around the pool area too much because it was hard to see without the glasses. I didn%26#39;t notice any construction going on. You should be ok. Also, there was a lot of talent at the pool. So bring those sunglasses for looking around.

JHM

JHM, maybe the table was amused when you split your 6%26#39;s against the dealer 7 because you had taken a slightly losing hand and converted it to two much more likely losing hands! Glad it worked out...split 6%26#39;s vs. 6 and 7%26#39;s vs. 7
